Junior Sous Chef – Björk Cafe and Bistro at Scandinavia House About the Role: Björk Cafe and Bistro is looking for an experienced and passionate Junior Sous Chef to lead both restaurant and catering operations. This role is ideal for someone with the skills and motivation to manage all aspects of our kitchen, including daily service and event catering, in a Scandinavian-focused, high-quality environment—without late nights. The Junior Sous Chef will work directly with our culinary team to ensure consistent quality, smooth daily operations, and memorable event experiences for our guests. Key Responsibilities: Restaurant and Event/Catering Management Oversee all kitchen operations, including both daily restaurant service and event catering production, ensuring consistency and quality. Plan and execute catering menus for both in-house and off-site events, coordinating logistics to meet high standards. Maintain quality control in presentation, flavor, and timing across both restaurant and event service. Manage food orders, inventory, and prep for both regular service and special events, ensuring the kitchen is prepared for any scale of operation. Actively participate in menu design for both restaurant and events, bringing fresh ideas with a Scandinavian touch. Leadership and Team Management Lead, train, and motivate kitchen staff, ensuring clear expectations for quality, safety, and collaboration. Support hiring and orientation for new kitchen team members, and foster a positive, team-oriented environment. Maintain open communication with front-of-house staff to ensure smooth coordination, especially during events. Cost and Profitability Control Collaborate with management to track food costs, labor, and other expenses, helping meet profitability goals. Source ingredients and negotiate with suppliers to maintain quality within budget constraints. Maintenance and Compliance Ensure that all kitchen equipment is in good working order and meets safety standards. Conduct regular sanitation checks, upholding food safety protocols across all areas of the kitchen. Qualifications: Minimum of 2 years in a high-end restaurant or catering environment, with experience managing both daily service and events preferred. Culinary degree is a plus. Strong communication and organizational skills, with additional language skills in French or Spanish beneficial. In-depth knowledge of food safety protocols, with an eye for detail and quality. A passion for Scandinavian cuisine and the desire to grow with Björk Cafe and Bistro.
