This is an opportunity to join an exceptional group of operators and work at the highest levels of startup finance.The RoleAs a Fractional CFO at Alta Advisors, you will be the primary finance partner to multiple venture-backed startups. You will drive strategic decision-making, oversee financial operations, lead fundraising efforts, and provide Board and investor-ready reporting. You will be supported by a high-caliber team of FP&A and accounting professionals, including alumni of Big 4 accounting firms and bulge bracket investment banks, enabling you to focus your time on strategic, high-impact leadership.This role is ideal for a seasoned senior finance leader—someone who has served as a CFO or VP of Finance in high-growth venture-backed startups and is eager to make an impact across multiple companies while building a thriving fractional CFO practice.ResponsibilitiesServe as CFO to Alta’s venture-backed startup clients, providing strategic leadership and financial oversightLead high-level financial strategy, Board communications, and executive reportingOversee FP&A, including forecasting, budgeting, and performance managementOversee accounting, financial reporting, compliance, and coordination of tax and audit processesSupport capital raising processes, including preparation of financial materials and investor communicationsManage internal teams to ensure high-quality delivery of accounting, FP&A, and financial operationsManage client scope, profitability, and identify opportunities for upsell or expansionQualifications15+ years total experience in finance, with strong accounting fluency3+ years in a CFO or VP Finance role at high-growth venture-backed startupsStrong technical accounting experience required; CPA strongly preferredExperience supporting capital-intensive businesses in sectors like deeptech, hardtech, and applied AIExperience with capital raising and investor managementStrong modeling and presentation skills (Google Sheets + Slides)Excellent communication and executive presenceAble to manage multiple client relationships and scale supporting teams to deliver high-quality service efficientlyWhat We OfferFlexible remote work on your termsAccess to a growing pipeline of top-tier startup clientsAn elite team that handles execution and deliverables, so you can focus on high-level strategy and client impactFreedom from business development, marketing, and back-office headachesSignificantly higher cash earning potential than a full-time rolePotential for equity partnership in Alta Advisors and equity stakes in select client companies for top performersWhat To ExpectPaid as an independent contractor (no benefits; tax payments are your own responsibility)Compensation is hourly and commensurate with experienceWhy Alta?Alta Advisors was founded in 2024 with a mission to raise the bar for strategic finance in the startup ecosystem.
