This role leads the strategies, development, and execution of a comprehensive Annual Giving Program, designed to increase alumni participation and giving through both campaigns and portfolio stewardship.The Assistant Director will focus on increasing both the number of donors and the total philanthropic support to the Annual Giving Program, with a particular emphasis on cultivating mid-level donors (annual gifts between $1,000 and $9,999). The person in this role is responsible for creating targeted, timely, multichannel campaigns that inspire giving, building strong donor relationships, and managing donor pipelines with the goal of translating meaningful alumni connections into sustained philanthropic impact.It is an opportunity combine data-driven strategy with well-crafted narratives and appeals that are segmented and personalized to resonate with alumni and friends and underscore the College’s mission and the impact of their philanthropic support.The Assistant Director will work closely with Advancement team colleagues, including alumni engagement and major gifts as well as colleagues across the College, including the Communications team.Typical duties and responsibilities consist of, but are not limited to, the following:Mid-Level Donor Strategy & Relationship ManagementManage a portfolio of 100 to 150 mid-level donors who are current and lapsed to deepen engagement, assess philanthropic potential, and increase annual support.Prospect for mid-level donors and proactively engage with alumni to build relationships, gather insights, and create long-term cultivation strategies.Collaborate with fundraising colleagues to pilot and refine engagement models specific to mid-level donors, including segmentation, personalized stewardship, and targeted appeals.Develop and implement a mid-level donor engagement plan which includes assessing feasibility and implementation to measuring effectiveness at regular intervals.Prepare a final report with key findings, metrics, and recommendations to inform the future direction of mid-level giving strategy.Annual Giving Campaigns & Donor CommunicationsPartner with fundraising colleagues and consultants to design and execute a strategic Annual Giving plan that will increase donor acquisition, retention, and pipeline development year over year.Lead multi-channel fundraising campaigns to drive participation and giving by setting engagement and gift goals, defining strategies and quarterly themes, and managing overall campaign calendar and individual campaign schedules.Craft and produce compelling fundraising messaging and appeals across digital and print platforms, tailoring content to segmented audiences and donor behaviors.Monitor campaign performance and giving trends to generate reports with insights and recommendations for optimization throughout each campaign cycle.Stay informed on best practices and innovations in Annual Giving and donor engagement to continually strengthen the program.Volunteer Engagement & Campus CollaborationServe as a strategic partner and fundraising advisor to campus stakeholders and align Annual Giving programs with institutional initiatives to leverage cross-campus collaboration opportunities.Cultivate relationships across the UC Law SF community, including alumni, faculty, staff, and students to build awareness and participation in Annual Giving.Provide support for Advancement-led and campus-wide events that contribute to donor stewardship and community building.Assist in coordinating volunteer-driven fundraising efforts, offering guidance and resources to volunteer leaders.Data Analytics, Reporting & Program InfrastructureAnalyze donor behavior, campaign engagement, and communication metrics to inform segmentation, messaging, and overall strategy.Support review of gift entry to ensure accuracy of philanthropic donations.Produce and distribute reports on donor engagement and campaign performance, offering insights that drive tactical decision-making.Contribute to ongoing evaluation and refinement of Annual Giving operations, identifying new tools and processes to enhance program efficiency.Perform other related duties as needed in support of the Advancement team’s goals.RequirementsEDUCATION AND EXPERIENCEBachelor’s degree in a relevant field such as communications, nonprofit management, public relations, business, or a related discipline.5 or more years of professional experience in fundraising, alumni relations, marketing, donor engagement, or a related field, preferably in higher education or nonprofits.Demonstrated success in managing donor portfolios, implementing annual giving campaigns, or executing donor communication strategies.Proficiency in relevant technologies including CRM databases (e.g., Salesforce, Blackbaud Raiser’s Edge), email marketing platforms and social media with strong attention to data tracking and segmentation.Strong written and verbal communication skills, including experience creating donor-focused content across channels (print, digital, social).Knowledge Skills & AttributesFamiliarity with the legal education landscape or experience working with alumni preferred.Experience developing and piloting engagement strategies for mid-level donors or segmented giving groups.Background in volunteer management or peer-to-peer fundraising programs.Ability to analyze giving trends, campaign performance, and donor behavior to inform data-driven fortable with public speaking, donor visits, and confident representing the institution in donor-facing
