You will report directly to the General Counsel and work hand–in-hand with company leadership as a trusted legal advisor on a wide variety of employment law matters across the company. You will also lead and help build a team of global employment lawyers to support the company’s expanding workforce. If you enjoy leading and scaling a key legal function at a high-growth company, this is the role for you!We have an “in office” approach to work, and this role is intended to be based in our headquarters in San Mateo, CA.What You’ll DoBuild and lead Verkada’s employment legal functionAdvise leadership and the People Team on a wide range of employment law issues, such as employee relations, performance management, leaves, accommodations, wage and hour, pay equity, internal investigations, compensation and benefits, terminations, and recruiting)Partner with Verkada’s People Team to build to scalable employment practices and policies at a fast but thoughtful paceDevelop, draft, update, and implement employment and other workforce-related policiesLead resolution of employment related disputes and litigation (including managing outside counsel cost-effectively)Lead or support employment-related investigationsDevelop and conduct company-wide employment training programs and compliance initiativesCollaborate with cross-functional teams on complex projects with employment law implications across multiple jurisdictionsAdvise company leadership and stakeholders on appropriate employment classifications and drive efforts to comply with applicable laws and regulationsMonitor the legal landscape of global employment laws and regulations and advise company leadership accordinglyWhat You BringJ.D. degree from an ABA-approved law school10+ years of relevant legal experience (preferably with at least 2 years of in-house counsel experience at a technology company)Deep expertise in U.S. employment law, especially California and federal, with familiarity across other states.Strong familiarity with employment law outside the U.S., primarily in the United Kingdom, Europe, and the Asia-Pacific region.Broad experience leading, conducting, and directing employment litigation, adversarial proceedings, and as employment-related internal investigationsMember of a U.S. state bar in good standing (California preferred)US Employee BenefitsVerkada is committed to fostering a workplace environment that prioritizes the holistic health and wellbeing of our employees and their families by offering comprehensive wellness perks, benefits, and resources. With that in mind, we carefully consider a number of factors to determine the appropriate starting pay for an employee, including their primary work location and an assessment of a candidate's skills and experience, as well as market demands and internal parity.
