The ideal candidate will have a deep understanding of tax and technology product development with a proven track record of successfully launching and managing products used to enable the delivery of professional services.Job SummaryJOB DESCRIPTIONThe Tax Digital Transformation & Innovation (DT&I) Product Management Managing Director leads the product lifecycle for proprietary technology solutions supporting the tax practice and delivery of services to clients. The ideal candidate will have a deep understanding of tax and technology product development with a proven track record of successfully launching and managing products used to enable the delivery of professional services.The Managing Director coordinates with the tax practice and software development team to set the strategic direction for creating and implementing technology to meet the needs of our clients and professionals and oversees a portfolio of products.Job DutiesProduct Roadmap and Value CreationsDefines and executes the product vision, strategy, and roadmap to maximize value delivered by ensuring the prioritization of the roadmap is aligned with tax practice strategy and needsManages product scope, budget, and timelineLeads the product team in delivering valueCoordinates with the DT&I leadership team and portfolio management leader to track and report business value and value creationManages the product portfolio and lifecycle, including new product development and decisions regarding product discontinuationOversees market analysis, competitive analysis, and product positioningEnsures the product delivers the outcomes agreed upon with the business and appropriately supports the business strategyProduct Development Lifecycle ManagementEnsures products are developed consistently with BDO’s tax technology strategy and guiding principlesChampions agile and incremental product development to ensure product team members are following leading practices of SDLC (software development lifecycle)Oversees the process of gathering requirements/user stories and works with business analysts and subject matter experts to refine the product backlog regularly.Oversees the development and execution of product business testing plansCoordinates with the tax practice and technical teams for product release logisticsEnsures all required prerelease reviews and approvals are completed prior to releaseManages the creation and execution of the deployment, adoption, and change management plansManages the execution of product maintenance plans and budgetEnsures product complies will all relevant policies and risk issues are identified and addressedStakeholder ManagementServes as a face of the product for stakeholders, coordinating and communicating proactively with all relevant stakeholdersObtains stakeholder buy-in to ensure the product roadmap aligns with business requirements and prioritiesServes as a liaison between the business and developers, gathering and applying feedback from users and others in the tax practiceProactively manages stakeholder expectations and engagement to ensure product successLiaises with Office of Tax Quality and Risk Management (OTQRM) to ensure products adhere to Tax quality and risk management firm standardsDeployment, Adoption and ImplementationJointly responsible with deployment team for deployment and adoption strategyWorks with deployment terms members to ensure successful deployment and adoption of the productIdentifies and guides training needs and planProactively addresses concerns raised by usersMarket PresenceLeads strategy discussions with pursuit teams about how to best leverage capabilities of products to create a strategic advantage in pursuitsResponsible for working with marketing to create overall market strategy for products, including those used solely to support BDO servicesParticipates in pursuits by presenting BDO’s technology stack capabilities related to products under managementEducates tax professionals and business development professionals on BDO’s technology tools and how to present them as part of their pursuits and leverage them effectively on engagementsSupervisory ResponsibilitiesOther duties as requiredEnsures appropriate resources are assigned to managers, senior associates, and associates on projects to meet objectives and timelinesOversees Product Management managers, senior associates, and associates working on assigned projectsActs as career advisor to team members as assignedEducationQualifications, Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:Bachelor’s degree, required; focus in Accounting, Finance, Information Systems, Business Administration or Computer Science, preferredMaster’s degree in Accounting, Taxation or J.D., preferredExperienceTwelve (12) or more years of experience in tax and/or technology product management, requiredSix (6) or more years of experience in tax, preferredSix (6) or more years of experience in technology product management with a track record of successfully launching and managing product, preferredExperience with corporate taxation, consolidations, partnership taxation, and individual taxation, preferredExperience with process design and/or improvement, preferredExperience serving in a product management/product owner role for enterprise grade tax applications that support the delivery of professional services, preferredLicense/CertificationsCPA, JD, EA, PMP, or other relevant certification, preferredCertified Product Manager, preferredSoftwareProficient in the use of Microsoft Excel, requiredExperience with project management tools (Azure DevOps, Jira, etc.), preferredExperience with Thomson Reuters ONESOURCE Income Tax compliance (OIT) software and ONESOURCE Tax Provision, preferredLanguage(s)N/AOther Knowledge, Skills, & AbilitiesStrong knowledge of product management and implementing leading practicesStrong leadership skills, with experience managing and mentoring teamsExcellent communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to work effectively with cross-functional teamsStrong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to make data-driven decisions with sound judgementStrong organizational skills, especially the ability to meet project deadlines with a focus on detailsAbility to manage multiple stakeholders in a matrix organizationAbility to work in a deadline-driven environment and handle multiple complex projects simultaneouslyAble to effectively manage a team of professionals and delegate work assignments as neededAble to encourage team environment on projects and contribute to the professional development of assigned personnelBuild and maintain relationships with stakeholders and all members of the product teamStrong executive presence with the ability to successfully interact with professionals at all levelsIndividual salaries that are offered to a candidate are determined after consideration of numerous factors including but not limited to the candidate’s qualifications, experience, skills, and geography.California Range: $250,000 - $380,000About UsJoin us at BDO, where you will find more than a career, you’ll find a place where your work is impactful, and you are valued for your individuality.
