We're actively seeking a talented AVP, ALM Strategy & Optimization to join our Pacific Life Investment (PLI) ALM team. This role is onsite in Newport Beach, CA.As AVP, ALM Strategy & Optimization, you'll play a key and visible role in Pacific Life's growth and long-term success by developing and executing on strategic objectives to manage the enterprise-wide risk and competitiveness. You will lead a team of 3-4 actuaries and financial professionals within Pacific Life Investments (PLI) Enterprise ALM team. You will partner closely with PLI's ALM Analytics, Hedging, and Investment strategy teams guiding the management and expansion of our $225+ billion of AUM through improving competitiveness, balancing risk vs. return, evaluating and leveraging real-time data to make key decisions relating to risk and competitiveness. You will report directly to the VP, Enterprise ALM.How you will make an impact:Motivating and leading a talented team of actuaries, investment and technical professionals in developing and continually striving to optimize Pacific Life's ALM strategyThrough the use of ALM model projections and analysis, developing and continually assessing ALM strategies and risk positioning across economic, GAAP and Statutory financialsChallenging existing and driving new capital efficient and economically advantageous ALM solutionsEffectively communicating and championing ALM strategic decisions and direction to ensure key stakeholders alignedDeveloping, maintaining and continuously evolving ALM strategic playbooks to manage risks related to market risk exposure, investment allocation and asset transfersActively collaborating with teams across the enterprise including Capital Management, Liquidity, Investment, Risk Management and Valuation to develop, evaluate and challenge explicit strategic ALM decisions or decisions impacting ALM strategyConducting R&D on different ALM strategies, methodologies, enhancements, etc.Supporting R&D initiatives for product development, capital management, reinsurance optimizations, asset allocation and moreMaintaining intelligence on industry ALM practices and innovations as well as regulatory developments pertaining to ALMSupport the development, review and challenge of market assumptions within the assumption governance frameworkThe experience you will bring:10+ years experience with thorough knowledge of life insurance business, investments, financial markets and risk management3yrs of experience in:Developing quantitative ALM or hedging strategies;Managing and executing ALM strategies or hedge programs; orOverseeing market risks and mitigation programsSolid experience in financial concepts, Statutory, GAAP, economic value/capitalExperience with U.S. and Bermuda Regulatory Frameworks as they relate to ALMStrong analytic skills to analyze and challenge market risk exposures and mitigation programs across the enterpriseAbility to effectively communicate across complex financial concepts and risk management solutions to audiences with varying levels of familiarity with capital markets and actuarial conceptsStrong written and verbal communication skills to effectively represent ALM positioning and strategiesFellow of Society of Actuaries (FSA) or Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA) and additional training on financial engineering, quantitative finance is preferredWhat will make you stand out:Experience developing and innovating new ALM and/or actuarially-based capabilitiesAbility to collaborate immediately across functional areas including investment, capital, treasury, and risk teams in driving ALM insights and discipline across the enterpriseExperience working across diverse teams - demonstrating:Adapting to diverse styles and ways of thinkingAbility to influence and negotiateEffective garnering of appropriate resourcesDevelopment or enhancement of operating modelsAbility to manage small to medium-sized projectsYou belong at Pacific LifeAt Pacific Life we are committed to a culture of belonging, a space where all employees areempowered to be authentic. The actual compensation offered to a candidate will be dependent upon several factors, including but not limited to experience, qualifications and geographic location.
