RWE Clean Energy, LLCTo start as soon as possible, full time, permanentFunctional area: EngineeringRemuneration: Non-ExemptThe role of this position will be focused on RWE Clean Energy’s (RWECE) renewable generating assets’ balance of plant equipment and systems as part of the Operations Electrical BOP team within the Operations Engineering department of RWECE. The Electrical BOP team provides engineering support and expertise on all systems included in the balance of plant: Transformers, Cables, Reactive Power Devices (dynamic and static), Substations, Relays, Breakers, as well as Power Plant Controllers. The Electrical BOP team works closely with RWECE’s Operations, Asset Management and Compliance Team as well as the Development / Construction Teams to ensure all current and future generating assets are performing this role, the Senior Engineer I, Electrical BOP Operations Engineering, will be responsible for assisting Site Operations with substation restoration efforts when there is a relay operation. The Senior Engineer I will analyze relay events and phasor measurement unit data to determine the cause of the event and the ability to safely restore the site which may include measures to isolate the faulted circuit. The Senior Engineer I will be responsible for conducting Power System studies (i.e. Arc Flash, Short Circuit, etc.) and/or reviewing studies provided by third party engineers. The Senior Engineer I will perform and/or supervise engineers with power plant controller testing. The Senior Engineer I will have a in-depth understanding of the various tests required and how to conduct the tests to meet regulatory requirements and on-time. The Senior Engineer I will participate in nights and weekends restoration team. The Senior Engineer I will also be responsible for the NERC Compliance Standards applicable to the Electrical Balance of Plant Team.Role Responsibilities:Responsible for conducting, reviewing, and approving the power system studies. The Senior Engineer will have an in-depth understanding of the IEEE standards for power system studiesResponsible for leading and executing on Request for Information (RFIs) from the ISOs, NERC, or other external entity requesting information from the RWE FleetResponsible for reviewing and approving HV and MV equipment specifications for the replacement of end-of-life components or failures. Responsible for updating all pertinent information required due to equipment swaps (i.e., ETAP models, PSSE/PSCAD models, NERC FAC-008, etc.)Train and mentor engineers to develop their knowledge in power systems, electrical engineering operations, and applicable industry standards (IEEE, NESC, NEC, NEMA, etc.)Responsible for conducting Power Plant Controller Testing. Understand the limitations of the sites to ensure the test runs successfully without inadvertently tripping or damaging equipment. Understand the various tests required (i.e., ERCOT AVR, PFR, NERC MOD-025, etc.) and what evidence is required for each testResponsible for technical compliance of NERC standards pertaining to the electrical balance of plant (i.e., PRC-019, PRC-024, PRC-025, MOD-025, etc)Provide recommendations on RWECE Substation Maintenance Program utilizing industry best practices and standardsResponsible for providing substation restoration efforts during nights and weekendsJob Requirements and Experiences:A Master's or Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering, Engineering, Physics, or a relevant study is requiredProfessional Engineer (PE) preferredA minimum of 6 years of professional experience with operating and analyzing high-voltage power systems equipmentA minimum of 6 years of professional experience applicable to electric power generation, generation management, and automatic generation controlDetailed knowledge of power generation and distribution equipment, transformers, switchgear, transmission feeders, substations, and renewable energyFamiliarity with the National Electrical Code (NEC), Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE), National Electrical Safety Code (NESC), and other industry/regulatory codes and standardsExperience with protective relays (transmission line protection, feeder protection, bus protection, transformer protection) and protection coordination studiesFamiliar with conducting and analyzing power system studies such as Power Flow, Reactive Power, Short Circuit, and Arc Flash studiesFamiliarity with the North American Electrical Reliability Corporation (NERC) standardsFamiliarity with industry modeling software such as PSSE, PSLF, PSCAD, TSAT, and ETAPAbility and willingness to travel to and from job sites as assignedStrong interpersonal skills, with the ability to manage customer relationshipsDemonstrated desire to learn about the Company and the renewables spaceExcellent proficiency with Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Outlook) and TeamsStrong leadership, communication, and ability to meet deadlinesStrong organization skills and ability to coordinate multiple tasks and deliverablesAbility to multi-task, while working independently and as part of a teamMotivated self-starter, goal-oriented, and strong problem-solving abilitiesProven ability to empathize, build relationships, and effectively communicate with people from a diverse set of backgroundsResponds well to direction, is easy to challenge and develop, and is coachableIs detail-oriented, has strong business acumen, and has a sound understanding of business conceptsPay range: The annual base salary range for this position in New York is $120,000 - $150,000. The listed salary range represents our good faith estimate for this position and represents the range for new hire salaries across all U.S locations.
