Assistant General Counsel – FERCLocation: Columbus, Ohio (HQ) or Washington, pensation: $183,000 – $238,000 base salary plus bonus eligibility and comprehensive benefitsWhy Work HereBe a trusted legal advisor to one of the nation’s largest electric utilitiesLead all aspects of the company’s practice before the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC)Play a central role in shaping policy, compliance, and litigation strategies across transmission and RTO mattersCollaborate with internal teams on regulatory, commercial, and risk management issuesCompetitive compensation, strong benefits, and excellent long-term career growth opportunitiesWhat You’ll DoServe as lead counsel for federal regulatory matters before FERC, including rates, tariffs, policy, compliance, and litigationProvide legal advice to internal stakeholders on FERC jurisdictional issues under the Federal Power Act, Department of Energy Organization Act, and related statutesRepresent the company in Regional Transmission Organization (RTO) stakeholder proceedings in PJM, SPP, and MISOPrepare and oversee filings, including comments, briefs, motions, testimony, and regulatory submissions before FERC and state commissionsSupport interconnection, transmission, generation, and rate-related issues for the company’s operating subsidiariesCollaborate with federal affairs, regulatory, and policy teams on rulemakings, compliance strategies, and legislative mattersAssess and recommend risk management strategies tied to federal regulatory issuesProvide advocacy, negotiation, and representation in hearings, settlement discussions, and administrative proceedingsWhat We’re Looking ForEducationJD from an accredited law schoolActive license to practice law in Ohio or Washington, D.C. (or eligibility under Ohio corporate practice rules)ExperienceMinimum 8 years of legal practice, with at least 5 years focused on FERC-related mattersExperience representing clients before FERC or a state/federal regulatory agencyBackground with transmission, RTOs, rate recovery, tariff filings, and regulatory complianceLitigation and hearing experience (briefing, preparing witnesses, case evaluation, and appearances in administrative or federal forums)Skills & AbilitiesExcellent advocacy, negotiation, and written/oral communication skillsAbility to work independently while fostering strong internal and external relationshipsStrong judgment, problem-solving skills, and initiativeCollaborative style with ability to work across legal, regulatory, finance, and operations teamsAbout the CompanyOur client is one of the nation’s largest electric utilities, serving millions of customers across multiple states.
