Overview We are seeking an Engineering Director, Product Technical Lead to lead the technology strategy and execution for BDO Tax Userverse—our end-to-end project management solution built on Dynamics and SharePoint Online in partnership with Microsoft. This role will oversee the architecture, engineering, and delivery of a platform that powers project operations across BDO Tax, with a strong emphasis on automation, AI integration, and seamless user experience. This role will lead building out high-performing product engineering teams in a global multi-site setup growing up to 30-50 engineers in the first 3 years. The system supports high-level functionality including project planning, resource management, engagement tracking, and workflow automation—designed to streamline how tax professionals manage client work from initiation to delivery. The ideal candidate will bring deep experience in cloud platforms (especially Microsoft), AI technologies, and enterprise-scale solution design. Prior experience in tax, particularly within large accounting firms or tax-focused product environments, is highly preferred. Prior experience on ERP and CRM solutions based on Salesforce, Microsoft and Oracle is also a plus. Responsibilities Tax Technology Business Strategy: Collaborates with senior tax leadership and Product Management leaders to define and execute development strategy for cloud-based tax products for a specific service line (e.g., Partnership, Corporate and Strategic Tax Services). Product Team Leadership: Designs, builds and leads technology development teams, fostering a culture of innovation, excellence, and accountability; drives growth and professional development of team members and determines resource needs. Product Development, Architecture & Engineering: Oversees the development of product portfolios, acts as the technical architect for products and platform-level solutions, and stays current with AI, Cloud, and Data trends. Risk Management: Ensures compliance with software development best practices, industry standards, IT standards, and security policies; ensures SLAs are met. Supervisory Responsibilities: Acts as direct supervisor and mentor to team members; supports career development as assigned. Other duties as assigned. Qualifications, Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Education High school diploma, GED, or equivalent with twelve (12) years of technology experience, required; OR Bachelor's degree, required, with a focus in Computer Science, Technology, Engineering, or Mathematics (STEM), Finance, or Accounting preferred, and ten (10) years of technology experience, required. Experience Five (5) or more years in a leadership role, managing development teams, preferred Experience managing product engineering teams with Twenty (20) or more people in a global multisite setup, preferred Experience delivering global scale technology solutions, preferred Experience interacting with client business leaders and IT professionals, preferred Experience working with a multinational remote team, preferred Experience developing and launching successful enterprise and/or SAAS products in the tax or accounting industry, preferred Extensive understanding of software architecture and engineering principles and patterns (e.g., microservices, serverless), preferred Experience with Agile and Waterfall development methodologies, preferred Experience managing projects in a fast-paced, dynamic environment, preferred Tax experience, preferred Microsoft Azure and Dynamics based product development experience, preferred Artificial Intelligence technologies, including GenAI and solution design and development using AI, preferred Experience in a professional services firm, preferred Licenses/Certifications Cloud related technical certifications like AZ-900, preferred Software Proficient in the use of Microsoft Office Suite, preferred Extensive knowledge of cloud platforms (Azure, AWS, GCP), AI platforms like OpenAI, Anthropic, DevOps practices, CI/CD pipelines, containerization (Docker, Kubernetes), and database technologies (SQL, NoSQL), preferred Expertise in multiple programming languages (e.g., C#, .NET, JavaScript/TypeScript, Python) and frameworks, preferred Expertise in Azure DevOps and ServiceNow, preferred Other Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities Strong leadership and management skills, with the ability to inspire, develop and motivate high-performing teams Excellent strategic thinking and problem-solving abilities Exceptional ability to understand business requirements and determine best options for delivery Strong knowledge of software development methodologies, technologies, and leading practices Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to effectively communicate technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders Strong knowledge of security best practices and performance management and optimization Ability to collaborate well with individuals at all levels and across functions Individual salaries offered to candidates are determined after consideration of factors including qualifications, experience, skills, and geography.
