We are Galapagos, headquartered in Belgium and growing our executive team in the U.S., with a mission to deploy our capital to secure and advance transformative, clinical-stage assets, primarily in immunology and oncology, to transform patient outcomes.Scope of the jobAs our Vice President Transactions, you will lead the execution of business development transactions, including structuring, negotiation, and closing of M&A, partnerships, and licensing deals. This role reports to the Chief Business Officer (CBO) and will collaborate with all cross-functional teams to drive the deal successfully to completion.Our Business Development team will be based in the San Francisco Bay Area.Your roleDeal Strategy and ExecutionDrive the deal process from term sheet to closing and beyond to integrationLead and coordinate all aspects of due diligence, working closely with internal cross-functional teams as well as external advisors and consultantsDevelop detailed business cases and valuation models for companies, assets and transaction termsNegotiate transaction structures and contracts to optimize value creationManage a transaction team composed of BD team members, bankers, lawyers, consultants, and other advisorsCross-Functional LeadershipPartner with our Search & Evaluation team to identify and assess transactable assets; represent the company in meetings with bankers, investors, and at industry conferencesCollaborate with the CFO and CSO teams to ensure accurate forecasting and integration of financial modelsPrepare clear and compelling deal documentation and presentations for the management committee and board of directorsWho are you?Prior senior-level business development role, or at least VP-level experience in investment banking, with a proven track record of leading complex transactionsAdvanced degree in Life Sciences, Business, Law, or a related field, combined with strong business acumenDemonstrated success in negotiating and closing value-creating transactions; strong and credible deal sheet requiredDeep understanding of key principles of contracts, deal structures, intellectual property, and valuation drivers relevant to licensing, collaborations, and related transactionsStrong ability to build and nurture trusted relationships with internal and external stakeholders across commercial, scientific, financial, and legal functionsEstablished professional network in the biopharma or academic ecosystem is strongly preferredProactive, self-driven, and highly structured, with the ability to excel in a fast-paced, rapidly evolving environmentWhat’s in it for you?At Galapagos, we prioritize your continuous growth and development, fostering a culture of empowerment. Actual base compensation will be determined based on a variety of factors including experience, qualifications, job-related knowledge, demonstrated skills and geographic location. The company reserves the right to modify base salary ranges at any time. In addition, this position is eligible for participation in Galapagos’ performance bonus plan and long-term incentive program.
