Overview Position: Editing Monitor (Principal Consultant #1111) Location: Springfield or Chicago Union: IFSOE Department: Special Education Anticipated Starting Salary Range: $60,047 - $75,881 Full Salary Range: $60,047 - $102,191 Office Hours: Monday – Friday 8:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m. Posted Date: August 29, 2025 Duties and Responsibilities Monitors assigned districts as directed and supports the monitoring team. Takes technical assistance calls as assigned. Completes quarterly departmental newsletter. Prepares and edits documents required by the Agency in the implementation of its goals and activities, including technical assistance presentations. Reviews federal and state statutes and regulations and other documentation in preparing written documents. Reviews and edits department reports, guidance documents, and manuals. Conducts high-quality editing by correcting grammatical, formatting, and stylistic errors based on the Agency's guidelines and templates. Provides corrective and positive feedback to writers that helps improve content quality and tone. Researches topic ideas. Develops ISBE website content and updates for the Special Education department, including interfacing with Special Education and IT staff to facilitate changes and updates to special education website content to ensure accuracy and accessibility of information to users. Performs other duties as assigned. Required Qualifications Bachelor's degree in Special Education, English, Journalism, or related field plus two years of relevant professional experience. (COPY OF TRANSCRIPTS REQUIRED AT TIME OF APPLICATION) Two years years of experience (in addition to education requirements) as a writer or editor. Experience with technical writing and editing. Knowledge of special education assessment and research methodologies. Ability to analyze, interpret and apply results. Excellent writing, editing, and proofreading skills. Proven ability to prioritize, multitask and ensure timely deliverables. Strong research skills and the ability to analyze and interpret data. Proficiency in Microsoft office suite, Photoshop or other publishing tools. Basic understanding of corporate literature (brochures, letterheads, communication documents, annual report, website content). Preferred Qualifications Master's degree in Special Education, English, Journalism, or related field. Specialization and certification/approval in special education and assessment. Experience in education (preferably special education) working as a teacher, administrator, or in a consulting capacity with schools.
