Apply NowJob Description
Our mission is to break the slow, iterative loop of hardware development by enabling engineers to test and refine electronics at the speed of thought. Our reconfigurable circuit technology transforms months of waiting into moments of discovery, accelerating the pace of electronic innovation. We are a team of experienced founders and engineers who have worked at companies like Uber, Verkada, Amazon, and Google. We have shipped code that runs on Mars, scaled the largest web services, changed the way people get around cities, and secured top-secret data for the US government. We are backed by exceptional investors who are committed to creating the next category defining company. Our days are spent solving tough manufacturing, physics, and design challenges at the nano to macro scale. We envision a world where anyone can describe what they want a product to do and to make hardware creation as accessible and rapid as software development. By building the most comprehensive understanding of how electronic components truly behave, we will fundamentally transform how humanity designs and builds technology.WHAT WE VALUE:Passion for your Craft: Show us your personal projects, your passions, your reason for being an engineer. We look for a maker’s attitude and willingness to take on any challenge.Learner’s Mindset: We focus on learning and thrive in an environment with hard problems and frequent feedback. This role will stretch both the depth and breadth of your skills. You will work with amazing people on an incredible mission and learn by doing new things. As an early team member, you will have the freedom to set the culture and are expected to innovate.High Standards & Continuous Self Improvement: We have high expectations colored by optimism. We prioritize learning, experiment often, and admit when we’re wrong. We are pushing the boundaries of what is possible and we value people who are comfortable with the unknown and want to figure things out together. We are seeking someone intellectually honest who will hold us accountable yet retains a healthy disregard for the impossible.Strong fundamentals: The team has transitioned from asking “can it be done” to working with global manufacturers to demonstrate the product at scale. The product type and assembly methods do not fit neatly into one engineering discipline so a “T-shaped engineer” will be most successful. You understand both how and why manufacturing processes are done the way they are done. You don’t accept “because it was always done that way” without understanding it from first principles. You know when to follow design rules and when to break them. You understand the principles of heat and mass transfer and can leverage them to design creative solutions within the constraints of what is manufacturable.THE ROLE:This is a hands-on role in the lab in San Francisco and with our vendors globally to scale the manufacturing processes from benchtop to mass production. You will be responsible for combining two adjacent established manufacturing methods and process flows to create an entirely new electronic device. You have spent time with microfabrication teams and are familiar with the methods for assembling and measuring semiconductor or MEMS devices. You have qualified manufacturing processes through DoEs, process splits, and short loops. You have banged your knuckles using a wrench and can comfortably assemble equipment to solve a new problem. If you identify as a high-slope engineer with a can-do attitude who wants to keep learning, this may be a good fit for you. You will be expected to run fast, learn exponentially, and have a team you can count on to keep you unblocked. You will be a part of creating the technology and understanding the limits of what it can do. This is a high ownership role with the freedom to execute at startup speed in service of a greater mission and vision. It is for someone who wants to work in person with great people, solving tough challenges, and creating the foundation for a new technology and culture. A list of other suggested qualifications is below.REQUIREMENTS & ATTRIBUTES:3-5 years of experienceBS or MS in materials science, manufacturing engineering, physics, or related fieldExperience working with a microfabrication team to understand and scale a production processExcellence with statistics and comfort using product travelersExperience designing and assembling fixtures for consistent resultsKnowledge of tolerance analysis and process capability indexesKnowledge of surface energy, physics of heat transfer, and vacuum principlesBONUS POINTS TO STAND OUT FROM THE CROWD:️ Experience resolving problems with stiction, friction, and work function Prior experience with wafer packaging, panel level packaging, hermetic sealing, or bonding Knowledge of and experience with laser processing - CW, pulsed, welding, or drilling Robot training using a teach pendant or G code COF, COG, or other design experience with high-resolution displays or touch panels️ Experience handling high aspect ratio or thin glassIf you don’t meet the exact requirements but have other reasons why you think you would be a good fit, we encourage you to apply and tell us about them.
