By asking incisive questions, respectfully challenging one another, and remaining intellectually agile, we work together to achieve exceptional outcomes.POSITION OVERVIEWThe Tax Director, Credit will join the Bain Capital Tax Department in Boston and report directly to the Head of Fund Tax, Credit & Global Special Situations. They will oversee tax planning, structuring, and reporting, with a particular focus on partnership taxation and credit-oriented investment products. This role requires substantial technical proficiency, sound judgment, and the ability to operate in a complex and evolving regulatory environment.THE ROLEKey responsibilities in support of the credit business will include but are not limited to:Primary ResponsibilitiesTax Strategy and PlanningDevelop and implement tax strategies to support the fund’s investment objectives and operational framework.Provide technical guidance on the tax implications of credit, structured, liquid, separately managed accounts, and distressed debt investments, including securitizations and CLOs.Advise on domestic and cross-border structuring to promote tax efficiency while ensuring compliance with applicable law.Transaction SupportProvide tax analysis and structuring advice in connection with new investments, financings, and divestitures.Conduct and review tax due diligence on potential investments.Support investor relations teams in responding to tax-related inquiries and preparing required disclosures.Governance and Risk ManagementEstablish and maintain internal policies, procedures, and controls relating to tax matters.Manage interactions with tax authorities, including examinations and audits.Ensure appropriate documentation of tax positions and compliance with internal governance standards.Collaboration and LeadershipServe as the principal tax advisor to senior management and investment professionals.Manage external tax advisors, auditors, and legal counsel to ensure cost-effective and high-quality service.Provide guidance, oversight, and mentorship to junior professionals engaged in tax or finance-related work.GENERAL QUALIFICATIONSThe ideal candidate will possess the following professional skills and experiences:Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related discipline; advanced degree (JD, LLM, or MST) preferred.CPA, attorney, or equivalent professional credential required.Minimum of 10 years of progressively responsible experience in taxation, with significant exposure to credit funds, private equity, or other alternative investment structures.Demonstrated technical expertise in partnership taxation, Subchapter K, and the taxation of debt instruments and financial products.Strong understanding of U.S. and international tax issues relevant to cross-border investments.Proven ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously in a fast-paced environment.Exceptional analytical, organizational, and communication skills.Prior experience managing relationships with external service providers and supervising professional staff.Bain Capital is an equal opportunity employer.
