The ideal candidate will have a strong background in state and local tax compliance, planning, and consulting, especially in sales tax. This role offers the opportunity to work with a diverse client base and to contribute to the growth and success of our Grand Rapids, Michigan-based SALT practice.Responsibilities:Review state and local sales tax returns, personal property tax returns, and income returns for businesses, individuals, trusts, and estatesConduct research and provide technical advice on state and local tax issuesAssist clients with state and local tax audits, including audit defense and negotiationDevelop and implement tax planning strategies to minimize state and local tax liabilitiesStay current on state and local tax laws and regulations and communicate changes to clients and team membersResearch technical matters related to state and local taxMentor and train staff members, providing guidance and support in their professional developmentCollaborate with other departments to ensure comprehensive client serviceQualifications:Bachelor's and/or master’s degree in accounting, Taxation, or a related fieldCPA or other relevant designation required5+ years of experience in state and local tax, preferably in a public accounting or consulting firmExperience reviewing tax returns prepared by tax staff and providing training and assistance to tax staff for accuracy and completion of tasks.Experience reviewing tax returns prepared by tax staff and providing training and assistance to tax staff for accuracy and completion of tasks.Knowledge of state and local tax laws and regulationsExcellent, analytical, problem-solving, and research skills, and written and verbal communication skillsAbility to manage multiple projects and deadlines in a fast-paced environmentProficiency in tax software and Microsoft Office SuiteLocated within commuting distance of Duluth, GA office.Doeren Mayhew is an Equal Opportunity Employer.
