Payment: Starting at $100,000; commensurate with experienceFounded in 1998, Latinos Progresando is a nonprofit organization that elevates the well-being of the Mexican community. Latinos Progresando provides quality, affordable immigration legal services, reaching families from more than 60 countries around the world. Additionally, the organization leads a 60-organization coalition called the Marshall Square Resource Network, offers arts and cultural programming, and fosters cross-community collaboration.Latinos Progresando’s Financial Controller plays a crucial role in ensuring the financial sustainability and integrity of the organization's mission-driven initiatives. Leading the finance team, they are responsible for overseeing and managing the day-to-day and strategic financial operations. The Financial Controller will maintain accounting records and internal controls in accordance with generally accepted accounting principles, and prepare timely financial statements. This role often involves navigating complex funding structures and grant compliance, requiring strong communication and collaboration skills. Reporting to the CEO, the Financial Controller provides financial insights to inform decision-making and ensure transparency and accountability.ResponsibilitiesFiscal ManagementImplement, evaluate, document and continuously improve accounting policies, procedures and controlsLead continuous improvement initiatives by observing effectiveness of accounting and reporting processes, identifying issues, recommending solutions, and provide senior management with feedback to support efficiency and accuracy of accounting and reporting operations and ensure team alignment with business goalsManage strategy and forecasting financial activities, assessing opportunities via business modeling, analysis and decision support to drive improved performance or adding new servicesFormulate and provide recommendations regarding appropriate performance metrics to senior leadershipDirect all financial activities and accounting functions, including general ledger, accounts payable/receivable, purchasing, bank reconciliations, insurance and tax reports and planning and monitoring of cash flowManage day-to-day accounting functions, including ensuring quality control over financial transactions and good stewardship of the organization’s fundsPerform month-end closing processPrepare and present regular financial statements to the CEO, Finance Committee, Board of DirectorsSupervise the performance of third-party vendors supporting finance workPrepare the annual budget in coordinating with the executive team, senior managers and Board Finance CommitteeOversee input of approved annual budget into the accounting systemGuide preparation of materials for the annual audit and work with outside accountants and external auditors to ensure a smooth, compliant, and efficient audit processOversee preparation of annual tax filingsMonitor and manage the organization’s cash flowMonitor and track restricted funds and contribute to grant reportingMonitor compliance with fiscal control policies and procedures; develop and implement additional policies as neededSupervise Bookkeeper, including workflow management and performance evaluationAsset ManagementWith leadership, devise and manage investment strategies aligned with the organization’s assets and strategic prioritiesMaintain capital budget for the organization’s propertiesManage fixed assets and adjust general ledger, as appropriatePerform annual CAM reconciliations and assessments for tenants in the organization’s propertiesManage the organization’s capital debt and, with CEO, loan repayment strategyCollaborate across departments to ensure that fiscal requirements for grants and contracts are identified, realized and monitoredDevelop grant-related budgets and reports as neededCoordinate government agency and other grant-related auditsPayrollSupervise and review biweekly payroll;
