As theSr Manager, Data Platform Engineering, you will lead the strategy, architecture, and execution of our data platform initiatives, delivering foundational capabilities that power analytics, real-time decision-making, and AI/ML innovation across the company.Your team will own the end-to-end delivery of platform services using best-in-class tools like FiveTran, Airbyte, DLT, Databricks, Spark, SQL, and Snowflake-abstracting complexity, accelerating data product development, and ensuring trust, governance, and observability throughout the data lifecycle. This is a high-impact leadership role with executive visibility, shaping not only our data platform but also our broader data vision.What You'll DoLead platform strategy & execution : Design and scale a modern data platform that supports ingestion, transformation, quality, cataloging, governance, access, and observability across diverse data domainsDeliver trusted, production-grade data : Implement robust data quality, monitoring, and observability frameworks to ensure transparency, reliability, and rapid issue resolutionAccelerate data-driven outcomes : Partner with product, analytics, data science, and business stakeholders to deliver platform capabilities that unlock insights, real-time decision-making, and AI/ML adoptionDrive operational excellence : Implement CI/CD, infrastructure-as-code, and cost-optimization practices to deliver secure, scalable, and efficient platform servicesChampion governance & compliance : Establish access controls, data cataloging, and compliance processes in partnership with InfoSec and regulatory teamsGrow and inspire a world-class team : Recruit, mentor, and coach high-performing engineers while fostering a culture of innovation, ownership, and technical excellenceShape the future of data : Stay ahead of industry trends in streaming, AI/ML enablement, and data mesh principles, incorporating them into the long-term roadmapOptimize pipelines & workflows : Optimize data pipelines and workflows for performance, cost, and reliability, leveraging tools like Airflow or Dagster , dbt , Spark, and DatabricksAccelerate development cycles : Standardize dbt project templates and CI/CD workflows to improve code quality, developer velocity, and operational resilienceBuild self-service frameworks : Deliver tooling, frameworks, and developer portals that reduce operational overhead and enable faster, more autonomous feature deliveryEnsure best practices in data modeling : Drive standards for ingestion, transformation, and governed data modeling, ensuring scalability and performance across millions of records dailyAbout You8+ years of experience in software/data engineering, with 5+ years focused on data platform or infrastructure engineeringDeep expertise in distributed data systems and tools such as Spark, Databricks, Snowflake, Kafka, Airflow, and SQLProven experience with modern data ingestion and transformation tools (e.g., FiveTran , Airbyte , DLT)Strong understanding of data governance, cataloging, access management, observability, and regulatory complianceHands-on experience with cloud platforms (AWS preferred) and infrastructure-as-codeModerate to advanced SQL skills, including window functions, CTEs, and performance optimizationProven track record of building and maintaining large-scale data platforms processing millions of records daily with enterprise-grade reliabilityDemonstrated leadership in Agile environments with a track record of mentoring and scaling high-performing teamsExcellent communication skills with the ability to influence and align stakeholders across engineering, product, and businessStrategic thinker who balances long-term vision with pragmatic deliveryPreferred QualificationsExperience designing or operating data mesh or domain-driven data platformsExposure to ML Ops, feature stores, or real-time analytics systemsPrior experience in fintech, ads, gaming, or other high-scale consumer technology environmentsTrack record of leading cloud migrations or large-scale platform modernization initiativesVendor selection and management experience across data tooling ecosystemWork LocationSan FranciscoThe above locations are eligible offices for this role.The locations have been determined to foster in-person collaboration with this role’s team or the related business lines. We utilize a hybrid work model, and our teams are in-office Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays. In-person attendance is essential for this role’s success, and remote placement will not be considered.LendingClub offers relocation, based on actual job level.Time Zone RequirementsPrimarily PTWhile the position will primarily work local hours, LendingClub is headquartered in Pacific Time and our ideal candidate will be flexible working across time zones when necessary.Travel RequirementsAs needed travel to LendingClub offices and/or other locations, as pensationThe target base salary range for this position is 197,000-230,000. The base salary of the role will be determined by job-related knowledge, experience, education, skills, and location. Base salary is just one part of LendingClub’s Total Rewards package.
