Job Description - NETWORK ENGINEER III-ENT (T229106)NETWORK ENGINEER III-ENT - ( T229106 )DescriptionFOR USE BY IT AND HSIS ONLY: The University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB) is seeking a NETWORK ENGINEER III-ENT to manage the purchase, installation, and support of network communications, including LAN/WAN systems. The role involves evaluating current systems, solving complex problems requiring in-depth analysis, planning large-scale systems projects through vendor comparison and cost studies, and providing leadership and training to lower-level engineers. The position emphasizes fostering a secure environment by adhering to Information Technology Security Policies and participating in security training such as HIPAA and FERPA annually.Key Responsibilities:Installing and configuring network devices like routers, switches, firewalls, load balancersManaging network protocols like BGP, OSPF, TCP/IPImplementing network security policies and best practicesAnalyzing network traffic patterns and identifying performance bottlenecksDiagnosing and resolving complex network issuesLeading network engineering projects and providing technical guidance to junior engineersDocumenting network procedures and standardsQualificationsAssociate's degree in Information Systems or a related field and six (6) years of related experience required. Work experience may substitute for education requirements. A strong understanding of network protocols (TCP/IP, routing protocols, VLANs, etc.) and expert knowledge of network design principles are essential.
