Our office will be moving to Reston, VA in 2026!We are seeking a Senior Associate General Counsel for Product and Privacy to join the CARFAX Legal, Risk and Compliance Team. The successful candidate will play a key role in supporting the CARFAX Product, Technology and Marketing teams by providing practical advice to minimize risk and ensure regulatory compliance while championing product innovation and advancing the goals of the business. The position represents an excellent opportunity to make substantial contributions to a dynamic and thriving business and will report to the Chief Legal Officer.What you’ll be doing:Help develop, enhance, scale and manage the global CARFAX privacy program, including privacy operations and documentation, incident and response plans, employee training and policy development and enforcementCollaborate with the CARFAX information security team to implement best practices for privacy and data security, perform periodic data privacy risk assessments and implement controls to mitigate privacy and security risksHelp develop external privacy notices and disclosures and manage internal policies and procedures to ensure compliance with privacy and cybersecurity lawsManage a small team responsible for the process of receiving, documenting, tracking, investigating and acting on data subject access rights requests and complaints as well as completing security questionnairesPartner with the CARFAX Product, Technology and Marketing teams to instill privacy compliant strategies throughout product development practices along with ensuring compliance with consumer protection laws and regulationsServe as a key resource to the commercial contracts team with respect to privacy and data securityHelp provide training to ensure CARFAX has a consistent and clear position on applicable privacy, data security and consumer protection lawsMonitor legislation, regulations, case law, government enforcement activities, evolving industry standards and emerging trends in privacy, data security and consumer protection to proactively provide advice to CARFAX leadership and the Product, Technology and Marketing teamsWhat we’re looking for:Juris Doctor (JD) degree from an accredited law schoolCurrently licensed to practice law in Virginia or eligible to be admitted under a Virginia Corporate Counsel CertificateAt least 10 years’ experience advising clients on privacy, data security and consumer protection issues, including both law firm and in-house experience, with significant and progressive responsibilityExpertise in federal and state privacy, data security and consumer protection law required, with experience in Canada and Europe strongly preferredExperience representing technology companies strongly preferredExperience with artificial intelligence strongly preferredCIPP/US required, CIPP/C and CIPP/EU strongly preferredExceptional leadership and relationship management skillsAssertive and effective communicator with excellent written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to explain complex legal concepts to non-lawyers and present material in group settingsStrong business acumen and process-oriented with experience building and scaling internal processes, documentation and systemsStrong work ethic with excellent follow up skills and a proactive mindsetExperience taking initiative in seeking solutions to problemsProven ability to work in a demanding environment, both independently and as part of a team, with a hands-on attitude and a willingness to get things doneWhat’s in it for you:Competitive compensation, benefits and generous time-off policies4-Day summer work weeks and a winter holiday break401(k) / DCPP matchingAnnual bonus programCasual, dog-friendly, and innovative office spacesFor a comprehensive list of benefits, please visit our website: just take our word for it:10X Virginia Business Best Places to Work10X Washington Post Top Workplace9X Washingtonian Great Places to Work3X St. Louis Post-Dispatch Best Places to Work #J-18808-Ljbffr
