Paralegal Specialist II – Misdemeanor Domestic Violence UnitAdmin | February 18, 2025Location: Courthouse Center175 Northwest 1 AvenueMiami, FL 33128Position OverviewThe Paralegal Specialist II in the Misdemeanor Domestic Violence Unit is responsible for having a full time Pre-file Conference calendar of appointments in order to take sworn testimony from victims, witnesses and police officers, to determine if the appropriate filing charges were made at the time of the arrest. The schedule for this position is 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., or 8:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.The Job Responsibilities are:Submitting clear, concise and grammatically correct written statements of facts for the attorneys to reviewAttending bond and arraignment hearings to interview, assess, provide victim advocacy and take sworn statementsExplaining the dynamics of domestic violence, and counseling and providing triage to the victimsCross-training in the handling of walk-in cases as needed to determine if criminal charges can be filedHandling weekend bond hearing calls on a rotational basisUnderstanding all the intricacies of civil matters like Injunction for Protection OrdersPerforming other related duties as assignedThe Minimum Requirements are:Bachelor’s Degree, and one (1) year experience as a Paralegal, Victim Witness Specialist, Case Analyst, or Legal Assistant (Trial Coordinator), orAssociate Degree and three (3) years’ experience as a Paralegal, Victim Witness Specialist, Case Analyst, or Legal Assistant (Trial Coordinator), orSuccessful completion of a two (2) year Paralegal program and three (3) years’ experience as a Paralegal, Victim Witness Specialist, Case Analyst, or Legal Assistant (Trial Coordinator), orFive (5) years equivalent combination of experience working as a Paralegal, Victim Witness Specialist, Case Analyst, or Legal Assistant (Trial Coordinator)The Preferred Qualifications and Skills are:Having experience working with domestic violence victims and an understanding of the dynamics of domestic violence and how to cope with victims in crisisHaving working knowledge of community-based programsBeing fluent in English and SpanishSpecific Skills and CharacteristicsThe Successful Candidate must be able to:Possess and demonstrate excellent problem-solving abilitiesPossess and demonstrate exceptional writing skillsPossess and demonstrate excellent verbal communication skillsPossess and demonstrate significant knowledge of computer programsWork effectively under pressure and independentlyBe flexible with their work scheduleBe personable and positive, demonstrating compassion and providing excellent customer service to all levels of staff and the public*Note: Please be advised the starting salary for this position is non-negotiable.To apply for this position, please complete and submit an application, and updated resume to: State Attorney’s Office reserves the right to modify the conditions of this job announcement or to withdraw the announcement without prior written or other notice.
