The Assistant General Counsel will advise and support WoodmenLife on legal issues impacting its core life and annuity business. The role will enjoy interesting work in several substantive legal areas, including contracts, technology, data privacy, anti-fraud, and pre-litigation alternative dispute resolution. The candidate will work closely with experienced lawyers, cross-train in areas of interest and business need, and interact regularly with both internal departments and external business partners.This is an in-office position with the ability to periodically work remotely.WoodmenLife is one of the best places to work in Omaha with over 130 years of service. Apply today to learn more!We are looking for someone to:Advises on legal issues arising in the individual life insurance and annuity portfolio for core operations areas, including underwriting, claims, customer service, and funds distribution.Assists in the development, review, and negotiation of select vendor contracts, legal correspondence, and other legal documents.Supports WoodmenLife’s alternative dispute resolution, antifraud, privacy, and vendor management programs.Serves as first-line decisionmaker on pre-litigation submissions to the alternative dispute resolution program.Provides guidance on application of data privacy rules and regulations impacting the business.Anticipates and accurately analyzes legal risks and provides timely and strategic recommendations to business leaders.Develops, drafts, and revises various corporate policies and procedures.Contributes to enterprise-wide initiatives by collaborating on special projects and cross-departmental committees.Meets expectations for attendance and punctuality established by management.Performs other duties as assigned.We need someone who has:Minimum Qualifications:Juris doctorate from an accredited law school.A valid license to practice law in at least one U.S. state, with the ability to timely motion into or otherwise obtain Nebraska licensure (if licensed in another state).In good standing and current on CLE in states of licensure.3+ years of experience as a lawyer practicing with a law firm, government entity, or corporation, with a demonstrated history of success/professional achievement.Prior experience advising insurance or financial services clients is a plus.Prior experience with contracting, technology, data privacy, or corporate transactions is a plus.High professionalism, integrity, and commitment to maintaining confidentiality.Excellent interpersonal, analytical, and problem-solving skills.Strong legal and business judgement.Excellent writing, research, and communication skills.High attention to detail.Strategic thinker who can effectively prioritize various goals and competing assignments.Excellent time management and organizational skills.Ability to work both independently and collaboratively.Ability to effectively manage stressful and time-pressure situations.As part of WoodmenLife’s employment process, candidates will be required to complete a criminal background check, credit check (where required for position), Fingerprint check (where required for position), drug screen and reference checks.
