Position: Associate Director, CommunicationsReports to: Vice President, CommunicationsOrganization:The Federation of American Hospitals (FAH), founded in 1966, is the national representative of more than 1,000 tax-paying community hospitals and health systems throughout the United States. FAH members provide patients and communities with access to high-quality, affordable care in both urban and rural areas across 46 states, plus Washington, D.C and Puerto Rico. Our members include teaching, acute, inpatient rehabilitation, behavioral health, and long-term care hospitals, and provide a wide range of inpatient, ambulatory, post-acute, emergency, children’s, and cancer services.Description:The Associate Director, Communications is a key member of the Federation of American Hospitals (FAH) Public Relations team. Working closely with the Vice President, Communications, this position has responsibility for developing and communicating the FAH narrative across traditional, digital, and social media platforms. This position works in close coordination with all members of the FAH team, including the policy, government affairs, legal, and meetings divisions, to help communicate FAH’s key priorities to targeted audiences, represent our members, and amplify the hospital voice. The successful candidate will be comfortable working with a team to execute comprehensive media and digital strategies and helping craft communications – whether social media posts, press releases, website copy, podcast scripts or other mediums. As such, the Associate Director must be a strong writer, creative thinker, able to juggle multiple projects at once, and able to work with senior leadership of FAH and its members.Responsibilities:Work with the PR team to develop and execute multifaceted public affairs campaignsDraft external communications, including social media, press releases, scripts, website content, andother communicationsDevelop internal communications, including writing and distributing FAH’s daily membershipnewsletterHelp drive coordination between teams and be responsible for PR team planning andcommunications calendarsUse multiple platforms to maintain and update media lists and send press releases, alerts, andcommunications to the Capitol HillRegularly update FAH messaging and proof points leveraging internal and external policy researchand analysisMonitor digital and traditional media for hospital news and narratives, monitoring all media channelsfor threats and communication response opportunitiesLead scheduling and content development, and help in the production and recording, of FAH podcast“Hospitals in Focus”Skills and Experience:2-4 years working in communications, public relations, or public affairs positions while demonstrating flexibility, responsibility, and creative thinking.Candidate must have exceptional written and oral communications skills and demonstrate the ability to pay close attention to detail.Strong ability to manage multiple assignments and manage priorities simultaneously, responsibly, accurately, and while meeting deadlines and expectations.Capitol Hill experience and/or knowledge of the health care industry preferred.Experience using communications platforms (e.g., Constant Contact, Meltwater, WordPress) and design/presentation software (e.g., Canva, PowerPoint) strongly pensationSalary Range: $80,000 - $95,000FAH offers generous performance bonuses and a comprehensive benefits package to eligible employees.Work LocationThe Associate Director position is hybrid, based at FAH’s Washington, D.C. headquarters. The role requires in-office presence Monday through Thursday, with an optional remote day on Fridays.
