Position: Assistant Muralist (Project-Based)Compensation: $15–$20/hour (1099 Contractor)Location: Varies by project (Philadelphia-based preferred)Walls for Justice is seeking passionate, reliable Assistant Muralists to support public art projects that engage communities and spark dialogue. This is a project-based opportunity ideal for emerging artists or creatives interested in mural-making, public art, and social impact.Role OverviewAs an Assistant Muralist, you’ll work directly with lead artists to help bring mural designs to life. Responsibilities include wall preparation, painting, material handling, and supporting community paint days.RequirementsBasic painting or drawing skillsAbility to take direction and work in a teamComfortable working on ladders or outdoorsReliable and punctualRespectful of the communities we serveMust have reliable transportationPrior mural experience is a plus, but not requiredThis is an independent contractor (1099) position with flexible hours based on project needs. Pay is $15–$20/hour, depending on experience.RequirementsAssistant Muralist – Job Requirements1. Artistic SkillsBasic drawing and painting abilities (brush, spray paint, etc.)Comfort working with color mixing, scaling designs, and transferring sketchesAbility to follow the lead artist’s style and direction2. Physical RequirementsComfortable working outdoors and on ladders, lifts, or scaffoldingAble to stand, bend, or lift for extended periodsAbility to carry supplies and paint materials (up to 25 lbs)Reliable and punctualWillingness to take direction and work collaboratively in a team settingRespectful of community, site rules, and all partners involved4. CommunicationStrong interpersonal skills with the ability to engage with the public when neededComfortable participating in community paint days or workshops5. Experience (Preferred but not required)Previous mural or public art project experienceBackground in visual arts or arts educationFamiliarity with mural prep work (priming, gridding, sealing, etc.)6.
