The Colorado Fiscal Institute is seeking a Development Director!WHAT WE DOThe Colorado Fiscal Institute (CFI) is a nonprofit, nonpartisan organization that advocates for sound tax, budget, and economic policies that promote equity and widespread economic prosperity. The Development Director will shape and oversee CFI’s development strategy and implementation, with a focus on helping secure significant new funding from foundations and individuals. In addition to identifying new sources of funding, the Development Director ensures the financial growth of CFI by working to raise visibility and awareness of the organization and its mission. The Development Director will report to the Executive Director and will work closely with the Leadership Team and senior staff in cross-functional areas (e.g. communications, outreach, research) and be responsible for staff supervision and evaluation. The ideal candidate will be an experienced fundraiser who flourishes in a fast-paced environment, can effectively manage multiple issues and projects simultaneously and thrives in engaging diverse audiences around the power of infusing evidence into policy decisions. The person who will thrive in this role will be someone committed to economic justice and can see themselves creating a culture of giving at CFI.WHAT YOU WILL BE DOINGDevelopment StrategyResearch prospects and develop strategies to support and grow CFI’s major individual donors, local partner support, and local and national foundation funding to sustain the organization and advance CFI’s missionFoster and maintain strong relationships with new and existing donors and program officers to help grow and strengthen CFI’s grant portfolioManage CFI’s donor pipeline and grants calendar along with individual giving communications calendarRepresent CFI with donors and at periodic donor events; prepare Executive Director and staff for donor and foundation calls, meetings, and presentationsWith the Executive Director, develop and manage the Board's Fundraising activity and ensure all Board members engage in fundraisingIndividual GivingDevelop a plan for Executive Director and staff “touch” points with individual donorsSolicit gifts and support the Executive Director and Board Members in solicitationsFoundation GivingOversee and manage all LOIs and grant proposals including writing, editing, and proofing; compiling all required pieces for submission and ensuring submissions of proposals that are compliant, timely, and competitiveMaintain grant compliance and reporting, including outcome measurement and grant budgetsDevelopment OperationsManage Colorado Gives Day, Annual Appeal and direct mail program, including drafting print and digital appeals, pulling mailing lists and sending out solicitationsWork with CFI leadership to create and manage an annual budget for the organization, that is based on strategic revenue targets, provide quarterly fundraising reports to the Board of Directors, and participate in the annual auditWork with communications team to keep relevant web pages current, periodically assist with social media and run donor reportsDevelop compelling messaging and implement strategies for consistent, clear communication with existing and prospective donors.Assist CFI’s outreach team with the planning and implementation of CFI events to maximize givingManagement and leadershipBe an active member of the CFI’s Leadership Team, deepening relationships with other team members, and advancing the long-term success of the organizationAlong with the Executive Director and Leadership Team, provide supervision, assist in creating and accomplishing workplans, and conducting regular staff performance evaluationsWHAT YOU WILL BRING TO OUR ORGANIZATIONA strong belief in CFI’s mission of a more economically just and racially equitable society5-7 years of progressively responsible development experience, including direct solicitation of five- to six-figure gifts from foundations and other grantmaking organizationsProven experience creating and executing a development strategyKnowledge of philanthropic organizations at the state and national levelDemonstrated project management skills and the ability to coordinate across multiple parts of the organizationStrong writing and editing skills with fluency in translating to funders why tax, budget, and economic policies play a foundational role in creating thriving communities and just societiesOrganized with strong attention to detail and the ability to meet deadlines, including the deadlines that emerge during busy cycles including legislative environmentsExcellent interpersonal skills, including the ability to interact comfortably and respectfully with a diverse team and alongside diverse community partnersProficiency with Microsoft Office Suite, including Excel, and Google SuiteAble to work collaboratively, with a willingness to bring your full self and creative ideas to advance the goals of the teamExperience with policy advocacy or working in the nonprofit advocacy environmentDesired Skills and ExperienceBachelor’s degree or higher in a relevant fieldExperience fundraising for an organization that does not provide direct service workKnowledge of online platforms like Salsa, CanvaProven track record of achieving revenue targetsFamiliarity with Colorado and its unique nonprofit and philanthropic landscapeWHAT OUR ORGANIZATION IS PROVIDINGExpected annual salary range of $90,000 - $100,000 based on experienceMedical, Dental, and Vision Insurance with up to 100% employer paid coverage for employeesSIMPLE IRA with an employer match of 100% of the first 3% employee contributionCO Family and Medical Leave, Employer Paid Short-Term and Long-Term DisabilityGenerous Vacation, Health Leave, and Paid HolidaysPaid Sabbatical Leave beginning at 5 years of serviceHybrid work environment with required in-person days Tuesdays and WednesdaysHybrid work stipend to offset costs associated with working at home and commuting to the officeCFI provides equal employment opportunities (EEO) to all employees and applicants for employment without regard to race, color, religion, sex, sexual orientation, gender identity, marital status, national origin, disability, genetics, veteran status or other legally protected characteristics.
