Project Engineer I, Highways

At RK&K, we are hiring experienced Civil, Highway Design Engineers in Columbia, SC! As a Project Engineer at RK&K you will join our Transportation team in support of our multiple ongoing programs with local DOTs and other public/private companies as well as assist in new business development efforts from an engineering standpoint. Our team-oriented environment is supported by subject matter experts and experienced mentors that will help you succeed!Essential FunctionPerform a wide variety of engineering tasks including concept designs, roadway & highway designs, streetscapes, complete streets, profiles, geometric layouts, cross sections, intersections, interchanges, contract plans, cost estimates and specificationsPerform engineering planning tasks including preparation of conceptual road plans and alternatives analysis for new transportation systems or retrofits to existing systems, design alteration and modification of existing transportation systems to improve safety or function, prepare alternatives analyses reports for concept roadway improvementsApply SCDOT and AASHTO design criteria, regulatory requirements, standards, and processesLead design projects to ensure deliverables are completed within budget and on scheduleCoordinate with clients, contractors, consultants, government agencies, and project staffWork in a collaborative environment with a diverse multi-disciplined project teamRequired Skills and Experience5+ years of experience in civil engineering design and/or transportation/highway engineeringBS in Civil Engineering from an ABET accredited engineering programProficiency in MicroStation V8i, GEOPAK/OpenRoads, InRoads, and/or AutoCAD Civil3DProfessional Engineering Registration (PE) or the ability to pass within 6 months of hirePreferred Skills and ExperienceIn-depth understanding of Highway Design Standards, SCDOT, AASHTO and other highway design manuals and guidelinesProficiency with MS Word and ExcelCapable of leading transportation design projects in a dynamic, fast-paced team-oriented environmentStrong written and oral communication skillsOther DutiesThis job description indicates the general nature and levels of work, knowledge, skills, abilities and other essential functions (as covered under ADA) expected.
