OverviewThe Federal Home Loan Bank of Boston is conducting a search for either a Principal Network Engineer or a Senior Network Engineer. Both roles are open and accepting applications. The Bank will hire 1 person for the vacancy. This role is hybrid and located in Boston, MA; a credit check is required.The Senior Network Engineer is a hands-on role responsible for supporting and administering the LAN and WAN infrastructure (Cisco, Checkpoint, etc.) within the corporate office, two co-located data centers, and the AWS cloud. This position provides network technical support for projects and operational processes to ensure the productivity and effectiveness of the Bank’s network infrastructure. The role works closely with all technology teams and will partner with the Principal Network Engineer to ensure day-to-day support is accomplished effectively. A self-starter with excellent planning and organizational skills who exercises independent judgment while participating in various complex and sometimes concurrent projects from inception through completion is required. The focus of this role is about 30% on projects and 70% on day-to-day tasks, with potential to grow into a network architectural/lead role over time.ResponsibilitiesAccountable for the daily administration, monitoring, maintenance, and support of the LAN and WAN environment, troubleshooting hardware and software issues within the physical office, two co-located data centers and the AWS cloud.Monitor the day-to-day work requests and incident (break/fix) tickets.Manage vendor relationships, contracts, invoicing and renewal processes for the networking environment, equipment, and applications.Responsible for administering the tools and services required to effectively manage and monitor the data and voice communication systems.Partner with User Support (help desk) to handle escalated calls and provide training for tasks that may be appropriately handled at the User Support level.Participate in technology projects assuming the role of subject matter expert for network related aspects of the project.Ensure detailed inventories of network equipment are accurate within the Bank’s ServiceNow CMDB.Participate in regularly scheduled disaster recovery exercises and occasional on-site support at the Bank’s data centers located in the metro-Boston area.Provide 24x7 on-call support when necessary and carry a bank-issued phone to respond to off-hour support issues.Other duties, as assigned.Knowledge/SkillsStrong network maintenance and support background in a Cisco and/or AWS cloud environment.Demonstrated ability to work within the AWS cloud environment and a willingness to build upon this foundation.Demonstrated strong critical thinking skills for complex problem resolution as well as excellent organizational and prioritization skills.Cogent technical documentation skills.Effectively create technical solutions from business requirements.Ability to work as part of a team and as an individual contributor with minimal supervision.A high level of responsiveness to the customer to build trust and credibility.Excellent interpersonal skills, specifically the ability to communicate and collaborate effectively within technical and non-technical teams, adapting communication and presentation style for the intended audience.Basic familiarity or a willingness to learn Infrastructure as a Service (IaaS) in support of an agile and DevOps methodology.EducationB.S. degree with a Computer Science related curriculum or equivalent experience is required.Experience3-5 years of network administration, configuration and support skills in a Cisco and/or AWS environment.Hands-on exposure working in the AWS or Azure cloud networks.1-3 years of firewall administration, configuration, and support skills preferably in a Checkpoint environment.Ability and willingness to learn Infrastructure as a Service (IaaS), in support of an agile and DevOps methodology.Exposure to a financial services or other highly regulated environment (preferred).Equal Opportunity EmployerAs an Equal Opportunity Employer, we strongly encourage applicants from every ethnicity, color, religion, gender, age, national origin, disability, veteran or parental status and sexual orientation.Nothing in this job description restricts management's right to assign or reassign duties and responsibilities to this job at any time. #J-18808-Ljbffr
