OverviewHealth Informatics Scientist - TBI Blast Injury role at The Henry M. Jackson Foundation for the Advancement of Military Medicine (HJF). The incumbent will join the Office of the Chief Medical Officer (CMO) for the Defense Intrepid Network, reporting directly to the principal CMO. The National Intrepid Center of Excellence (NICoE) is a DoD institute focused on evaluation, treatment, and research for service members dealing with mild traumatic brain injury (mTBI) and psychological health conditions. The NICoE maintains a large-scale informatics database with longitudinal data for hundreds of thousands of patients diagnosed with mTBI. HJF supports military medical researchers and clinicians in achieving their research goals.ResponsibilitiesDefine, develop, execute, and oversee data governance for data requests, data warehousing, and information delivery solutions related to a specialized research project in repetitive brain injury in the military setting.Support the CMO in research and development of state-of-the-art data warehousing and information delivery solutions.Collect data from clinical/research settings, prepare data for analysis, clean imperfect data, and visualize data outcomes using tools such as Tableau, Python, and SQL.Perform complex data analysis, design, development, and testing activities for project reporting and data analytics across operational areas; work with datasets and statistical capabilities.Provide operational support for BI and data warehouse components (e.g., Microsoft Access, SQL Server, MySQL, DB Visualizer, Teradata Studio).Assist with design, development, and deployment of a specialized data warehouse and tools to support long-term information delivery and data visualization needs.Handle data requests in support of clinical evaluation and research projects by manipulating large datasets from multiple systems.Build and maintain SSIS packages for data refreshes; manage research document storage and handle missing data.Collaborate with project partners (e.g., Walter Reed Army Institute of Research, JTAPIC, Institute for Defense Analyses).Generate and distribute reports on daily, weekly, monthly cycles and ad hoc requests.Identify and reconcile data discrepancies under supervision and seek guidance when values are teract with clinical personnel to resolve data omissions or discrepancies; generate documentation for data alignment and clarification; verify outputs against original forms.Check data accuracy daily; report system or data errors to supervisor.May perform other duties as assigned or participate in required role training.QualificationsEducation and ExperienceDoctoral Degree in Computer Science, Informatics, Statistics, or related field with 3+ years of experience, or Master’s Degree with 6+ years of experience.Required Knowledge, Skills And AbilitiesKnowledge of brain health/TBI.Experience with databases and standard data analytics toolkits (Tableau, Qlik, R, Python, Matlab, SQL, dashboards, data mining, statistical modeling for predictive analytics).Ability to manage multiple complex projects simultaneously.Ability to work independently and in a team; meet deadlines; strong communication skills (oral and written).Military experience in a research setting focusing on TBI and blast exposure is a plus.Attention to detail, problem-solving skills, and ability to handle multiple tasks.Knowledge of the Federal Interagency TBI Registry (FITBIR) is a plus.US Citizenship and ability to obtain and maintain a T3/Secret Clearance.Physical CapabilitiesAbility to stand or sit at a computer for prolonged periods.Work EnvironmentOffice pensationThe annual salary range for this position is $88,600-$140,000.
