Software Engineer, Developer Experience & Tooling Join to apply for the Software Engineer, Developer Experience & Tooling role at Candid Health. The Role Are you passionate about empowering engineers to do their best work? Do you thrive on building tools and systems that streamline engineering workflows and amplify productivity? If so, read on! Candid Health is hiring an experienced Software Engineer to focus specifically on Developer Experience, unlocking velocity for our developer workflows and acting as a force multiplier for our entire engineering organization. In this role, you'll work hand-in-hand with capable engineers and operators who are tackling meaningful problems in the US healthcare system. In close partnership with our product engineering teams, you will architect and build the tooling, libraries, and infrastructure that power all of the work we do, with the end goal of unblocking our developers and enabling them to ship faster. Our ideal candidate is technically adept (5+ years of relevant industry experience) and can drive ambitious improvements to the developer experience, motivated by improving the day-to-day experience and efficiency of fellow engineers. What You’ll Do Improve product efficiency and stability by writing shared Python libraries for use by multiple product engineering teams. Optimize our Python test environments and accelerate engineering velocity. Collaborate with cross-functional teams to identify the organization’s needs, design solutions that are optimized for performance and scalability, and empower our engineers. Deliver enhanced observability to our stack, helping developers solve problems in our cloud environments. Implement robust CI/CD pipelines ensuring efficient application delivery and reduced downtimes. Who You Are You have 5+ years of hands-on software engineering experience, with a focus on developer productivity. You have experience building tools, frameworks, and libraries that minimize developer toil and accelerate engineering velocity, driving impact at scale beyond your immediate team. You're comfortable writing Python, familiar with Python test environments, and capable of building complex systems optimized for performance and edge cases. You're collaborative, involved in architecture discussions with product engineering teams, and know when to push back for the sake of the platform. You derive satisfaction from delivering a product that makes engineers' work easier and more effective. Continuous learning is your mantra; you stay up to date on the latest in developer tooling and are eager to bring that knowledge on board. You're proactive, solution-driven, and focused on optimizing systems for performance, scalability, and security. You're a systems thinker who understands how things work holistically and can leverage cloud concepts like eventing or webhooks to drive outcomes. Hands-on experience with our tech stack: Python, GCP, Terraform, Kubernetes, Docker, GitHub, and Postgres. Familiarity with parallel technologies like AWS is welcome. You are willing to work hybrid or in-person at one of our office locations (NYC, SF, Menlo Park, Denver). What We Do We’re fixing one of the most broken and costly pieces of the US healthcare system: medical billing. Today, healthcare providers spend over $250B each year on administrative overhead just to get paid by insurance. Medical billing is expensive because it’s nuanced and hard — perhaps ~100x harder than credit card processing — and because it’s traditionally done by armies of humans who manage complex rules and processes for many insurers with little supporting software. We’re rethinking medical billing from the ground up, building software backed by data science (and soon, a dash of machine learning) to automate much of this complexity so providers can get paid more easily and inexpensively. We were in the Y Combinator W20 batch and are funded by a world-class group of funds (8VC, First Round Capital, BoxGroup) plus angel investors. We’re helping customers treat opioid addiction, provide holistic care for women, support weight loss, increase access to mental health care, and more. This is important, gratifying work — join us to contribute to healthcare innovation. Our Values We spend at least as much time with coworkers as with our closest friends and family. If we intend to do the most important and challenging work of our lives, it’s important that our teammates energize, support, inspire, and push us to do our best work. This is what you can expect of your teammates at Candid (in no particular order): We put our customers first We take care of each other and ourselves We anchor on outcomes and work relentlessly and creatively to achieve them We collectively prioritize building a diverse and inclusive workspace We believe humility is our greatest strength We are candid, kind, and committed We strive to be the most prepared person in the room We are truth seekers Pay Transparency The estimated starting annual salary range for this position is $148,000 to $220,000 USD.
