Datacenter and Cloud EngineerCooley is seeking a Datacenter and Cloud Engineer to join the Technology Infrastructure & Development Operations team.Position summary: The Data Center and Cloud Engineer ("DCE") is responsible for the firm's Datacenters and local office server rooms and is a technical expert who executes effectively on server infrastructure projects. This position will have a thorough understanding of firm technologies and systems and will be able to understand both the business and technical requirements for new products that will be engineered and implemented by the group.Position responsibilities:Analyze system performance, modify parameters to improve throughput and effectively utilize system resources. Monitor resource usage, making required adjustmentsParticipate in on-call production support activitiesWork closely with the Architecture and Engineering group as well as the Network Engineering group to provision complex infrastructure designs, for example, the design, implementation and support of VMware server infrastructureMonitor, maintain and ensure the regular execution of backup routines by responding to system alerts and maintaining data replication between datacenters and DR locationsParticipate in the planning, testing and execution of DR/BC procedures including failover and failback between datacenters and across the Firm's networkProactively create and implement procedures to prevent and reduce the severity of outages. Implement automation wherever possibleResponsible for implementation of required hardware and/or software for all tier and affinity infrastructureResponsible for all aspects of the datacenternetwork including racking, cabling and power related to the infrastructure including those involving services from providers such as co-location management and carrier servicesMaintain the integrity of the servers (physical and virtual), storage systems, network and security devices and overall network infrastructure for the business unit via actively monitoring, troubleshooting, and participating in regular monthly systems patching and upgrade activitiesResponsible for identifying problem areas in a proactive way and developing solutions to meet the challenges in theDatacenter environmentResponsible for troubleshooting and issuemanagementthroughout the datacenter and cloud systemsAnalyze business needs and the external environment to develop, scope, and enable implementation of enterprise infrastructureCommunicate ideas through presentations, reports, and documentationWork with stakeholders, management, and subject matter experts to develop and implement technology strategiesCollaborate with technology leadership in developing and maintaining a roadmap for assigned areasCoordinate with and participate in activities with vendors, as requiredProvide clear and grammatically correct documentation, emails, procedures, and status (both verbal and written)Comply with all department policies, standards and proceduresParticipate in change control and change managementprocessesRespond to administrative requests and responsibilities in a timely mannerAll other duties as assigned or requiredSkills and experience:Required:After orientation at Cooley LLP, exhibit proficiency in the Microsoft Office suite, iManage and other firm applicationsAbility to work extended and/or weekend hours, as requiredAbility to travel, as required4+ years' direct applicable experience (e.g., system administration with advanced systems engineering)Senior candidates much have 6+ years' directly applicable experience in the field and performing exempt-level dutiesEnterprise architecture expertise for both collocated and cloud datacentersExperience with Hyperscalers, specifically Azure and AWSExperience with VMWare and other enterprise hypervisorsPreferred:Bachelor's or master's degree in computer science or related disciplineCurrent certifications in AWS or Azure or VMwareExperience working in a law firm or professional services environmentNetApp storage and enterprise storage protocols to include CIFS, NFS, iSCSI, and FCExperience with backup software Cohesity or Veeam and AWS BackupExperience with:Enterprise server technology, specifically Cisco UCSScripting with PowerShell and/or PythonEnterprise backup technologiesEnterprise DR Methodologies and technologiesDevOps technologies and methodsCompetencies:Professional demeanor at all times, including during project engagementExcellent communication (verbal and written) skillsStrong project management skills, and the ability to translate complex technical concepts into simple languageStrong team player who can successfully interact with all levels of business professionals and effectively work with diverse personalitiesStrong analytical and project management skills. Capable of interpreting and applying complex technical informationAbility to work independently and to make sound judgments regarding the best course of action to resolve problems; ability to determine when further expertise is necessary and contact the proper individuals, as requiredAbility to work effectively under pressure, set priorities, handle a number of matters concurrently and in a timely manner, all within a fast-paced environmentHigh level of organizational skills required to adequately manage projects, monitor numerous live systems simultaneously, ascertain trends which may indicate problems and keep accurate up-to-date recordsCooley offers a competitive compensation and excellent benefits package and is committed to fair and equitable employment practices. EOE.The expected annual pay range for this position with a full-time schedule is $110,000 - $155,000. Senior level candidates may be considered for this position and would be eligible for a higher salary range based on experience.
