Data Architect II

Overview:Holds deep expertise in Azure cloud technologies, Databricks, SQL Server, and Power BI to lead the design, integration, and optimization of enterprise data systems across AEC (Architecture, Engineering, and Construction) operations. Performs scalable data platforms and analytical models that support complex project workflows, resource planning, financial tracking, and operational insights across multiple disciplines and geographies. Anticipates job expectations while performing design and technical tasks requiring application of standard techniques and knowledge.Responsibilities:Architects, implements, and maintains a modern enterprise data platform using Azure Data Lake, Azure Synapse, and DatabricksDesigns robust tabular models using SQL Server Analysis Services (SSAS) and Tabular Editor for optimized Power BI reportingDevelops and enforces standards for data modeling, semantic layer design, and performance optimizationCollaborates with BIM, project controls, finance, and operations teams to integrate construction, scheduling, and cost dataLeads data integration strategies across on-premises SQL Server systems, cloud services, and third-party platformsCollaborates with the technology peers and business functions to engineer, integrate, review and approve technology solutionsImplements and maintains data governance, security, and compliance protocols in line with industry and organizational standardsSupports and mentors data engineers and BI developers on best practices for ETL/ELT, DAX, and Power BI developmentAuthors and maintains appropriate architectural standards, roadmaps, and other related documentationManages the lifecycle of Power BI datasets, including incremental refresh, partitioning and parameterizationTranslates AEC-specific data needs into scalable data solutions, enabling real-time and historical insights into KPIs such as earned value, WIP, RFI metrics, and resource utilizationProvides afterhours engagement as needed for high severity situationsPerforms other duties assigned by leadershipPerforms work in a manner that demonstrates an awareness of the firm's cultural values, including a commitment to quality, innovation, learning and growthSupports the firm's cultural values, including a commitment to quality, innovation, learning and growthActs as a mentor by coaching and motivating project team membersActs with positive, service-driven attitude with a commitment to going above and beyond to help customers and team membersFosters and maintains a collaborative professional working relationship with project teamsTakes personal responsibility for fostering a green workplace through sustainable work practicesUnderstands the financial implications of overhead and chargeable timeCollaborates in delivering a project on defined budget requirementsMay assist in maintaining and cultivating essential relationshipsQualifications:Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or an equivalent combination of education and experience4+ years of experience in data architecture or enterprise BI developmentProven expertise in:Azure Data Services (Data Lake Storage, Synapse, Data Factory, Purview)Databricks (Delta Lake, Spark SQL, notebooks)SQL Server, including SSAS Tabular modelsPower BI (DAX, composite models, row-level security)Tabular Editor (v2 or v3, C# scripting, deployment automation)Experience with large data volumes, real-time data ingestion, and pipeline orchestration.Experience in MS Office SuiteProficiency in reporting tools such as SSRS, Power BI, Tableau, etc.Solid understanding of the AEC domain, project lifecycle, and key data entities (e.g., schedules, budgets, drawings, RFIs, submittals)Strong knowledge of data modeling techniques (Kimball/star schema, data vault, etc.).Strong understanding of data visualization principles, best practices, and user experience designSolid knowledge of SQL, DAX, and data querying to extract and manipulate dataStrong customer service, interpersonal skills and the ability to interact with all levels of staffStrong work ethic and eagerness to produce high quality, accurate resultsAbility to work with large data sets and perform data analysis to derive meaningful insightsStrong analytical and problem-solving skills with keen attention to detailStrong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with cross-functional teamsAbility to hold sensitive information with a high level of confidentiality and integrityAbility to communicate and present ideas in a clear, concise and professional manner both verbally and in writingAbility to proactively problem solve and apply innovative solutionsAbility to work and collaborate in a team environment, and ability to work independently and prioritize workAbility to work on multiple projects at the same timeAbility to effectively meet deadlines at expected qualityThe information contained in this job description is intended to serve as a minimum requirement and guideline - not as a guarantee - for promotion to this level.
