OverviewManager, Software Development (Developer Experience) at Appian. Our Engineering Enablement team empowers the Engineering Department to achieve maximum productivity and reliability by providing insights, tools, and best practices. This role combines technical leadership in a specific technology area with hands-on software design, coding, and reviews, while mentoring engineers and managing HR responsibilities. You will foster collaboration, remove obstacles, and align technical work with business goals.This role is based at our headquarters in McLean, Virginia. Appian emphasizes in-person collaboration as part of our culture.ResponsibilitiesWrite software in a full-stack web and mobile environment, applying data structures, algorithms, and design patterns.Promote best practices and accelerate development through relevant software development experience.Provide deep technical reviews and feedback in a specific technology area of the product.Manage up to 6 direct reports through mentoring and coaching; develop and guide their career paths.Participate in staffing plans with departmental leadership; act as an agent for change at team and department levels.Foster a culture of learning and growth; perform HR management tasks for direct reports (timesheet approval, communication of raises/bonuses, performance reviews, etc.).QualificationsB.S. in Computer Science or related field; advanced degree preferred.10+ years in software development.1+ years as a mentor or manager.Tools and ResourcesTraining and Development: onboarding and department-specific training; mentorship and First-Friend program.Growth Opportunities: leadership program for new and aspiring managers; Appian University; tuition munity: inclusive culture with employee-led affinity groups to foster networks and collaboration.About AppianAppian is a software company that automates business processes.
