Department of Applied Data Science Lecturer PoolJoin to apply for the Department of Applied Data Science Lecturer Pool role at The California State UniversityOverviewThe Department of Applied Data Science offers academic programs to address emerging workforce demands of the interdisciplinary talents designing and deploying intelligent solutions to real-world data challenges. Students acquire a comprehensive understanding and knowledge of the principles, methodologies and technologies of data science. The department collaborates with industry to ensure curriculum remains relevant for Silicon Valley.Brief Description Of DutiesLecturers are expected to teach their courses effectively, maintain office hours in accordance with University policy, and cooperate with the department in the peer-review process. They should seek guidance from the Department Chair on university policies and department practices related to grading, testing, textbooks, office hours, curriculum goals, disability accommodations, academic integrity, etc.All faculty should use the Canvas Learning Management System (LMS), the official LMS provided for the SJSU community. All classes at SJSU, whether online or not, must be anchored in Canvas to ensure faculty-student connection in a common space as students are directed to log in to Canvas for online access to their classes. You will have access to this system prior to the semester start date.Candidate must demonstrate awareness of and address the needs of a student population of great diversity including age, abilities, cultural background, ethnicity, religion, economic background, primary language, sexual orientation, gender identity, and academic preparation through inclusive course materials, teaching strategies and advisement.Faculty shall organize all their classes within the Canvas Learning Management System (LMS).All classes must be offered and meet as scheduled throughout the entire semester or term, in the mode assigned and listed in the schedule of classes (asynchronous, synchronous, bichronous, in-person, or hybrid).Required QualificationsA PhD or Master’s degree with at least 5 years of significant and relevant professional experience in a STEM field is required.Knowledge of the subject matter of the discipline in Data Science and Analytics.Evidence of satisfactory achievement in previous academic work.Applicants should demonstrate an awareness of and sensitivity to the educational goals of a multicultural population as might have been gained in cross-cultural study, training, teaching and other comparable experience.Conditional AppointmentPlease be advised that an appointment is contingent upon budget and enrollment considerations and subject to order of assignment provisions in the collective bargaining agreement between California State University and California Faculty Association. These provisions state the Order of Work, or the order in which available courses must be assigned to faculty, starting with tenure line faculty and ending with new lecturer pensationCompensation and salary range placement are determined by qualifications and experience.
