Your Role:The Data Architect plays a pivotal role in leading the design and oversight of APMG’s data infrastructure to ensure seamless integration, governance, and accessibility of data across all departments. This position directly supports the mission of our nonprofit by organizing and connecting data from critical domains, including fundraising, underwriting, finance, digital engagement, and operations, to drive informed decision-making, measure impact, and improve service to our constituents.This hands-on role is responsible for developing and maintaining a comprehensive data architecture roadmap, ensuring that technology decisions are strategic, scalable, secure, and sustainable. The Data Architect will lead enterprise-wide data initiatives and collaborate with Information Technology peers on integration development and Azure platform support.As part of the responsibilities, the Data Architect will also contribute to selecting mission critical, cross-functional projects, such as the implementation of a new order management solution, where data mapping/modeling, integration, and collaboration with business users are critical to success.Strong interpersonal and communication skills are essential for this role, as the Data Architect must build trust and alignment across departments, translate complex data concepts for non-technical audiences, and foster a culture of data-informed collaboration.Location: Hybrid, St. Paul, MN.Expected Compensation Range: $156,000 - $168,000 annually. Exact salary is determined by experience and education related to the role, organizational compensation structure, geographic location and internal equity.Application Requirement: Applicants must be authorized to work for ANY employer in the U.S. We are unable to sponsor or take over sponsorship of an employment Visa at this time.Application Deadline: Open until filled.Your Responsibilities:Lead the organization’s data strategy, including architecture design, governance, and standards adoption.Develop and maintain a forward-looking data architecture roadmap aligned with business goals and technical sustainability.Design, build, and optimize scalable data integrations across platforms and systems.Collaborate on Azure development and integration work, in partnership with IT peers.Support cross-functional projects requiring data integration and architecture expertise, including temporary initiatives involving business-critical systems.Define and implement data governance practices (data quality, stewardship, metadata, lineage, and security).Provide support for critical systems and platforms, such as:Visual Traffic (underwriting)Lawson FinancialsUKG Pro (HRIS)IBM Planning Analytics Workspace (PAW)Azure Data WarehouseIgloo (intranet), Slack, and other internal toolsIntegrationsDocument architecture decisions, data flows, and integration designs.Coach and mentor IT team members on data practices and tools.Perform other duties as assigned.Required Education and Experience:Bachelor’s OR master’s degree in computer science, Information Systems, Data Engineering, or a related field.7+ years of experience in data architecture, integration development, or application/database support.Required Skills, Knowledge and Abilities:Expertise in the design, development, and performance tuning of relational databases, especially SQL Server and Azure SQL.Proficiency in building ETL/ELT pipelines and system integrations using modern tools and frameworks.Strong hands-on experience with Azure data and integration services.Advanced SQL skills, including database design, stored procedures, and complex queries.Experience with Power BI and supporting business users in self-service analytics.Familiarity with application support, including implementation, upgrades, issue resolution, and system maintenance.Knowledge of information security principles, including data privacy and separation of duties.Proven ability to collaborate across departments, build strong relationships, and communicate clearly with technical and non-technical audiences.Detail-oriented with excellent organizational skills and the ability to manage deadlines and shifting priorities.Creative, adaptable, and motivated by mission-driven mitment to APMG’s values, including Equity, Inclusion, Diversity, and Accessibility (EIDA).Preferred Skills and Experience:Experience with Visual Traffic (Marketron) and/or Lawson (Infor) Financial applicationsKnowledge of the BI reporting environment is desirable.Experience working with REST and SOAP APIsExperience with NonprofitsReporting To This Position: NonePhysical Demands and Working Conditions:Must be able to perform the essential duties of the position with or without reasonable accommodation.Ability to manage some work outside of standard office hours as needed.Physical Demands:Required to move about in an office environment and sit for extended periods of timeRequired to move about in the communityFrequent use of hands for data entry/keystrokes and simple graspingWorking Conditions:Moderate noise levelOccasional exposure to prevalent weather conditionsAPMG offers a comprehensive benefits package including Medical plans with HSA and FSA options, Dental, Vision, Life and AD&D, Short-Term and Long-Term Disability, Paid Parental Leave and Paid Caregiver Leave after 1 year, Vacation (3 wks/per year, pro-rated, based on hours worked), Sick time (12 days, pro-rated, based on hours worked), Holiday Pay (10 holidays + 2 floating holidays each year), Volunteer Time (8 hours per year), Long-Term Care and Critical Illness insurance options, Employee Assistance Program, 403(b) Retirement Plan, and more.Diversity creates a healthier atmosphere: All qualified applicants will receive consideration for employment without regard to race, color, religion, sex, age, national origin, protected veteran status, disability status, sexual orientation, gender identity or expression, marital status, genetic information, or any other characteristic protected by law.
