The Tax Director is also responsible for developing and training managers and staff as well as participating in mentoring employees. This position will also be responsible for the strategic decisions relating to the practice and the tax department and will also aid in marketing efforts and developing new business.Essential FunctionsReview of highly complex individual and business returnsDevelop strong relationships with clients and become their primary contactResponsible for ensuring client retention through effective problem resolution, negotiations, and proactive client follow-upMaintain a thorough knowledge of the client and all facets of client businessNegotiate client fees and any additional billing feesCoach all levels of staff during the planning, execution, and completion phases of client engagementResponsible for planning, organizing, running monthly technical meetings for professional staffNotify partner group of changes in federal, state, and other applicable tax laws prior to commencement of changeRegularly and proactively report to the partner group on any updates or changes within tax department, status of engagement projects, any issues within department along with recommended solutions, and ROI of current initiatives or developments within tax departmentProactively identify inefficiencies and insufficiencies within tax department and actively work to reduce or eliminate themResponsible for ensuring the tax department has proper staffing and actively forecasting staffing needsRegularly work with audit department coordinating client visits between audit/tax departmentActively participate in new business development through networking and proposals- must understand and actively market all firm servicesMinimum QualificationsBachelor b4s Degree or Master b4s Degree in Accounting, Taxation or related fieldMinimum ten (10) years b4 experience in public accounting with demonstrated progression in complexity and scopeExperience reviewing complex individual and business returnsCPA license, preferably for the state of CTExcellent communication and interpersonal skillsExcellent ability to multi-taskAbility to work heavy overtime from January to April 15(may be in excess of 55 hours per week).
