Director of Tax & AccountingHybrid – Methuen, MAFull-time | Bonus-Eligible |Overview:A progressive and tech-forward accounting firm is seeking a Director of Tax & Accounting to lead and grow our established Tax & Accounting department. We deliver a full suite of client accounting services—including CAS, payroll, tax preparation, and advisory—serving business owners and high-net-worth individuals. We are deeply committed to building trusted, long-term partnerships with our clients and team members alike.This is an excellent opportunity for a rising leader—perhaps a Senior Manager or Manager at a regional firm—seeking greater autonomy, meaningful leadership responsibilities, and a voice in firm administration. We leverage platforms like TaxCaddy for client data collection and e-signatures, and SurePrep for OCR-driven data entry into UltraTax. Our tax department processes ~350 returns annually (150 business / 200 personal), with work starting early in the season due to internally prepared financials.What You'll Do:Leadership & OversightOversee the Tax & Accounting department, setting clear goals and KPIsManage team capacity and ensure timely, accurate workflow executionReview and sign final tax returnsLead team training, mentoring, and developmentIdentify and implement process improvements for greater efficiency and qualityClient-Facing ResponsibilitiesMaintain and grow client relationships with high standards of communication and serviceAdvise clients on complex tax matters and planning opportunitiesServe as a trusted advisor, identifying additional service opportunities (bookkeeping, payroll, tax planning, etc.)Communicate with taxing agencies on behalf of clientsHandle sensitive client concerns or quality issues with professionalism and careStrategic Growth & InnovationCollaborate with leadership on firm growth strategiesIdentify opportunities to enhance client experience through better communication or new technologyMonitor evolving tax laws and regulations to ensure compliance and implement best practices (e.g., PTE Tax, ERC, new credits)Explore and recommend new service lines aligned with client needsYou’re a Great Fit If You:Thrive in a team-oriented, respectful environmentTake ownership of your work and hold yourself accountableEnjoy mentoring and developing othersAre adaptable and motivated by continuous improvementHave an entrepreneurial mindset and want to help others achieve their business goalsRequirements:Bachelor’s degree in Accounting from an accredited institutionCPA certification preferred; EA accepted5–10 years of relevant experience, ideally in a public accounting firmExperience with flow-through entities and multi-state tax returnsProven leadership experience managing both clients and team membersFamiliarity with UltraTax and QuickBooks preferredCompensation & Benefits:Salary: $130,000 – $150,000/yearBonus eligibility401(k) with matchingPaid time off and sick timeHealth, dental, and vision insuranceFlexible schedule and hybrid work environmentContinuing education credits & advancement opportunitiesFlexible spending account and retirement planPaid family and bereavement leaveLocation:This is a hybrid position based in Methuen, MA. #J-18808-Ljbffr
