This position will ensure that practices comport with relevant compliance regulations and with LOB leadership or Program Partner direction and guidelines so that underwriting activities are completed expeditiously, efficiently and cost effectively. This position exists to ensure that the branch and company or RIB objectives are met.Essential Duties and ResponsibilitiesOversees the Branch underwriting operation of all accounts according to underwriting guidelines and profitability targets to achieve and exceed Line of Business goals.Accepts or rejects simple to complex risks, evaluating risk characteristics to determine proper limits, attachment, terms and conditions as compared to the average in its class and price for profit within Company or Program Partner guidelines.Manages new business production, renewal retention, use of capacity, and overall profitability of book of business.Keeps alert to industry and marketplace changes; shares market intelligence with senior management and underwriters, as appropriate.Prepares data and reports to communicate information to Program Partners and Home Office.Manages the operations of the branch.Manages administrative and auxiliary HR tasks in accordance with Company policies and practices.Collaborates with other company personnel to ensure the branch operates in a unified and productive manner.Creates a sales culture in the branch to consistently deliver on brand and product value proposition.Manages staff to attract, develop, retain, and motivate team members who deliver results.Aches to maintain a positive work climate aligned with corporate programs that meet or exceed LOB goals.Maintains a work environment that is productive, safe, and compliant with all Company policies and legal requirements.Markets Insurance Products in assigned territory.Fosters strong partnerships with customers by informing on new products and programs, communicating opportunities for continuous improvement, and clarifying underwriting decisions to ensure understanding of goals and objectives.Provides production support through producer or agent visitations and accompanies underwriters on visits as needed.Coordinates with Home Office to appoint, monitor, and terminate brokers or agents per approved plan and performance.Keeps abreast of industry developments, legal requirements, and regulatory changes; educates team members and provides ongoing learning.RIB Essential Duties: Underwrites insurance risks per business plans and assigned authority; negotiates rates, terms, and conditions for existing and new business.Documents policies ensuring compliance with regulations and contributes to business plan and objectives.Develops technical knowledge in the field, including risk models used by the Company.Oversees workflow, monitors underwriting quality, desk management, and communication among staff.Continuously updates marketing methodologies, relationships, and ideas.Develops and leads a team of Branch underwriting professionals.Provides strategic and tactical direction to the Branch Underwriting team and communicates Mission, Values, and operating principles.Establishes work cadence and ensures performance and outcomes align with excellence in delivery and customer experience.Hires, onboards, trains, and develops staff; handles performance management and coaching for direct reports.Acts as a resource to answer questions and resolve complex problems; ensures adherence to Company policies, guidelines, and risk management metrics.Supervisory responsibilities: Directly supervises employees in the underwriting branch; tasks include interviewing, hiring, training, planning, performance reviews, rewards and discipline, coaching, development planning, and staffing.Education, Experience, and CertificationsBachelor/'s degree required in Business, Accounting, Economics, Management, or related field, or equivalent combination of education and experience.Minimum 5–7 years of related underwriting operations experience (Workers’ Compensation or Property depending on business).Minimum 1–2 years of supervisory experience.Surplus Lines Broker license required for RIB.Knowledge and SkillsWorking knowledge of underwriting operations (Workers’ Compensation or Property depending on business).Familiarity with sales or training preferred.Extensive experience in customer service, presenting product information, and influencing customers.Proficiency with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).Ability to read and interpret complex documents, including submissions, loss control reports, policy forms, endorsements, financial reports, and legal documents.Ability to respond to inquiries from customers, regulatory agencies, or business community members.Ability to present information to top management, public groups, or boards of directors.Other Knowledge and SkillsCAT modelling resources for account and portfolio exposure analysis.Physical RequirementsOffice environment; ability to sit, walk, stand, talk, and hear. May lift up to 30 pounds. Frequent travel to meet clients and develop business; automobile and air travel required; visits to producer offices.Close vision and ability to use computers for extended periods.Work EnvironmentOffice environment with standard office equipment usage.We are currently not offering employment sponsorship for this opportunity. The current salary range is $137,617.39 - $232,082.34, exclusive of benefits and bonuses.
