Senior Director of Finance

OverviewOur client, a well-established nonprofit organization serving older adults, is seeking a Senior Director of Finance to oversee the full scope of its financial operations. This leadership role drives financial strategy, daily accounting activities, and long-term planning, and reports directly to the Executive VP of Finance/CFO. You will work closely with senior leadership to guide budgeting, financial reporting, compliance, and systems improvements across multiple entities. Location: Rockville, MD.ResponsibilitiesLead monthly and year-end closings, journal entries, reconciliations, and financial statement preparationOversee budgeting and forecasting processes in partnership with department leaders across the organizationMonitor financial performance, identify trends, analyze variances, and present findings and recommendations to leadershipManage and upgrade accounting software and financial systems; suggest and implement process improvementsSupervise and mentor the finance and accounting teamEnsure timely and accurate filing of tax returns, including Form 990s and PPTsOversee payroll and accounts payable operationsLead the annual external audit process, including preparation of consolidated financial statements and footnotesMaintain compliance with GAAP, donor restrictions, grant requirements, and debt covenantsSupport internal controls documentation and training; lead system and process improvementsServe as a key advisor to senior leadership on financial matters and help drive organizational successSupport insurance renewals and monitor cash flow and forecastingQualificationsBachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance; CPA required (active preferred)7+ years of financial leadership experienceStrong grasp of GAAP, tax compliance, and nonprofit financeExperience with accounting systems and technology upgradesSkilled communicator with strong analytical abilities and team leadership experienceBackground in healthcare or public accounting is a plusThe compensation for this position ranges from $150,000.00 - $200,000.00.
