The ideal candidate will be highly collaborative and entrepreneurial, with strong process execution skills and the ability to quickly develop expertise in ESOP transactions and related valuation, tax, and structuring concepts.For over 70 years, FMI has been the leading consulting and investment banking firm dedicated exclusively to the built environment. Our ESOP Advisory team builds on this legacy by guiding owners of successful construction, engineering, and related firms through the complexities of selling their business to employees via an ESOP—a solution that aligns with succession, cultural continuity, and long-term financial objectives.This full-time opportunity is based in Raleigh, NC, with consideration for Tampa or Denver for the right candidate. Travel is expected approximately 10–30%.All applicants for employment must be legally authorized to work in the U.S. on a full-time basis. Visa sponsorship is not available at this time.ResponsibilitiesLead or co-lead transaction execution of ESOP advisory mandates—including valuations, capital structure analysis, lender engagement, and documentation through closing.Support business development efforts for Managing Directors, including prospect research, pitch development, and participation in prospect meetings.Build strong relationships with clients and serve as a key point of contact throughout the transaction lifecycle.Mentor and manage Associates and Analysts across multiple engagements.Develop thought leadership and represent FMI at industry events, including those focused on employee ownership and succession planning.Uphold FMI’s Code of Conduct and contribute to practice development and broader firm initiatives.QualificationsBachelor’s degree required; MBA or other advanced degree preferred.5–7 years of investment banking, private equity, corporate development, or transaction advisory experience, or 3+ years post-MBA, with demonstrated progression.Strong financial modeling, valuation, and analytical skills.Demonstrated ability to manage complex transactions and lead junior team members in a fast-paced, high-performance environment.Excellent interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills.Prior ESOP transaction experience is highly valued but not required—must be eager to learn and build technical knowledge in this space.Familiarity with the construction or engineering sectors is a pensationBase salary: $190,000 (for VP II level) plus bonusSigning bonus availableFMI offers a comprehensive benefits package including fully paid employee medical coverage, life insurance, long-term disability, robust 401(k) plan, PTO, parental leave, and more.FMI is an equal opportunity workplace.
