OverviewValuation Associate – Complex Financial Instrument role at Withum. Withum’s Forensic and Valuation Services practice supports clients with valuation, risk management, transfer pricing, economic analysis, and model validation. This position can be based out of any U.S. office location (New York, NY; Philadelphia, PA; Boston, MA; Braintree, MA; Woburn, MA; Princeton, NJ; Whippany, NJ; East Brunswick NJ; Red Bank, NJ; Saddle Brook, NJ; Providence, RI; Baltimore, MD; Bethesda, MD; Nashville, TN; Boca Raton, FL; Orlando, FL; San Diego, CA; Los Angeles, CA; Orange County, CA; San Francisco, CA; San Ramon, CA; Portland, OR; Seattle, WA). This is not a remote position; the in-office expectation is 3 days per week on-site at one of our office locations.The role will primarily focus on supporting Complex Financial Instrument valuations. Associates may work on assignments including performing equity valuations or complex security valuations (stock options, warrants, convertible debt, other complex securities/derivatives) for financial reporting, tax compliance, transaction advisory, and other purposes.Withum is committed to professional growth and collaborative client service. Our culture emphasizes teamwork, client focus, and ongoing development for all team members.How You’ll Spend Your TimePreparing valuation analyses for tax, financial reporting, and advisory purposes (enterprise values, stock options, warrants, convertible debt, equity allocations across complex capital structures, and other complex securities/derivatives) primarily in ExcelCompleting data entry of tax returns and financial statements into Excel modelsAssisting in writing and preparing reports, letters, and other client deliverablesAssisting in review of third party appraisals for audit support purposesPerforming macroeconomic and industry researchReviewing various agreements, documents, research papers, and market research to capture salient points for modeling and clearly communicate key driversAssisting in the development and maintenance of models using Excel and VBA for Monte Carlo, lattices, or other complex methods as requestedReviewing and gaining a sufficient understanding of the necessary tax and financial reporting guidance governing the analysisQualificationsBachelor's Degree in Business, Economics, Finance, Mathematics, Statistics, Accounting, or similar quantitative disciplineDemonstrated experience in business valuation, ideally including exposure to complex financial instruments and capital structuresUnderstanding of equity valuation methods such as discounted cash flow, market multiple, market transaction, and option pricingUnderstanding of financial statements and business tax returns requiredProgress toward external designations such as CFA, FRM, CVA, CEIV, CPA/ABV a plusStrong interest in quantitative and economic analysisAdvanced knowledge of Excel preferredAbility to program in VBA and/or other statistical packages a plusCapability to work independently on projectsStrong analytical and problem-solving skills, and strong verbal and written communication skillsCompensation and LocationThe compensation for this position varies by location. California/Washington State ranges: $65,000 – $80,000; Washington, D.C. ranges: $65,000 – $80,000; NYC ranges: $65,000 – $80,000. Please visit our careers page for additional information.
