Our community offers independent living, assisted living, and skilled nursing services, with a focus on supporting older adults in leading engaged and meaningful lives.Position Summary:The Chief Financial Officer (CFO) provides executive leadership for all financial operations of Kendal at Lexington. Reporting directly to the Chief Executive Officer (CEO), the CFO serves as a strategic partner to the leadership team and the Board of Directors, ensuring the organization’s financial integrity, sustainability, and compliance with all applicable regulations.The CFO oversees accounting, budgeting, forecasting, capital structure, investments, payroll, and financial reporting functions, while also providing guidance to department leaders and fostering a culture of transparency, accountability, and collaboration.Key Responsibilities:Leadership & StrategyServe as a key advisor to the CEO, leadership team, and Board of Directors providing financial insight to support decision-making and long-term sustainabilityEmbrace and foster Kendal at Lexington’s mission and values while supporting the financial health of the organizationParticipate actively in Board, Strategic Planning Committee, and Finance Committee meetings, presenting clear and accurate financial informationMaintain a close working relationship with the Chair of the Finance Committee to determine agenda items, review policies, and address emerging financial mattersParticipate in and represent Kendal at Lexington in Kendal CFO peer group meetings, investor calls, and with external partnersLead, mentor, and develop finance department staff to ensure high performance and professional growthDirectly oversee the finance team including Controller, Payroll Coordinator, and Accounting AssistantFinancial OperationsDirect all accounting, billing, accounts payable, payroll, and reporting treasury activitiesPrepare and distribute accurate monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements, including analyses and variance reportsManage the annual budget process, lead the preparation of the capital and annual budgets, and develop long-range financial forecasts and projectionsHead internal controls and maintain compliance with GAAP, bond covenants, and regulatory requirementsManage banking relationships, cash flow, and investments in line with organizational policiesCoordinate annual financial audits and act as liaison with auditors and rating agenciesEnsure timely preparation and filing of IRS Form 990 filing, Medicare and Medicaid cost reportsCompliance & Risk ManagementEnsure compliance with Medicare, Medicaid, tax filings, and regulatory requirementsOversee insurance program, vendor/employee compliance screenings, and financial screening of potential residentsMaintain accurate corporate records and ensure required filings with state and federal agenciesMonitor and implement best practices for financial risk mitigationCommunication & CollaborationSupport department leaders with budget and financial analysis to align operations with strategic goalsCommunicate financial performance and projections to residents and other constituents as appropriate, including annual financial presentationsCultivate relationships with external partners including banks, investors, auditors, insurers, investment advisors, and regulatory bodiesServe as primary point of contact for Chief Investment OfficerQualifications:Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field requiredCPA, MBA, or other advanced credentials strongly preferredMinimum of 5+ years of progressive financial leadership, experience within healthcare, nonprofit, or senior living sectors preferredProficiency in financial management systems (e.g., Sage/Intacct) and Microsoft Office Suite requiredDemonstrated success in strategic financial management, budgeting, and audit processesFamiliarity with healthcare reimbursement, tax-exempt bond financing, and investment oversight preferredWorking ConditionsFull-time, exempt, on-site leadership position at Kendal at Lexington based in Lexington, VirginiaPrimarily office-based with regular participation in resident, board, and committee meetingsOccasional travel for Kendal gatherings, professional conferences, or regulatory meetingsCompensation & Benefits:Attractive salary commensurate with experience.Health, Dental, Vision, and Supplemental Insurance Plans403(b) Retirement Plan with Employer Matching & ContributionsPaid Time Off, Paid Holidays, & Floating HolidaysDiscounted Employee MealsReferral BonusContinuing Education & Professional Development ReimbursementUse of Onsite Wellness Facilities Including Fitness Center & Indoor PoolQualifications Licenses & CertificationsPreferredCertified Public AcctEqual Opportunity EmployerThis employer is required to notify all applicants of their rights pursuant to federal employment laws.
