As a Product Designer, you’ll help leverage emerging technology to reimagine the experience of editing video. You’ll own the end-to-end design of new features and evolution of existing ones in the generative/agentic space. You’ve got a passion for creating novel experiences and experience collaborating closely with user research, product management, engineering, and other designers to achieve the right mix of novelty and usefulness.Our product is an intricate web of interconnected features, which means designers at Descript need strong systems design thinking. You’ll need to know how to find the right fit for new features in an existing product and have a strong intuition for when to push at system boundaries.Join us to help build the future of creative tools.ResponsibilitiesPlay a key role in a feature team, driving design decisions and collaborating with stakeholders and fellow designers to shape innovative video editing experiencesSet a high bar for craft, eye for detail, and deep empathy for usersOwn the design process from concept through to executionBring clarity to problems that are broad and ambiguous in scope, integrating user, business, and technical constraints through structured thinking and effective communicationContribute to the definition and expansion of our design systemCollaborate deeply with diverse stakeholders (product management, engineers, designers, executives)Advocate for what you think is right, know when to disagree and commitRequirements4+ years as a designer, the majority of it spent in productYou have a portfolio demonstrating your ability to create net new features from scratch as well as your systems thinkingExceptional interaction and visual design skills—the ability to create delight without sacrificing usabilityUnderstanding of AI/ML and some experience designing for itExperience designing web, mobile or desktop applications with workflows and systems design challengesExperience on a fast-growing team and ability to work through ambiguity and create claritySelf-direction, you own your own work and deliver on your commitmentsContribute actively in team crit—know how to give and receive feedback wellAt least 2 of the following stand-out skillsStand-out skillsPast work building and/or working on a creation tool (e.g., word processor, design tool, audio or video editing tool)Experience building or working on a mature design systemExpertise in accessibilityComfort with designer-led user researchAn interest in Vibe coding (or, hey, code coding) for prototypingFinding new tools and processes (including AI) to improve the design processThe base salary range for this role is $190,000-$230,000/ year.
