Located on San Francisco Bay, our facility is surrounded by wildlife preserves and trails.Job DescriptionAs a Pilot Line Manager, you will focus on producing battery materials and building cells that deliver high energy density, safety, and manufacturability. You will manage pilot line technicians, plan and organize cell manufacturing, and support R&D and manufacturing teams by creating and characterizing materials and cells. A background in chemical or mechanical engineering is preferred. This role involves hands-on, fast-paced work in a growing team passionate about transforming energy storage technology.ResponsibilitiesManage manufacturing technician team for daily operations of small and large format battery cell production, from raw materials to quality checksSupport prototype and sample cell manufacturing, collaborating with process engineersProduce battery components such as powders, electrodes, and assembliesPlan and schedule production of prototype batteries and samples for customersManage raw materials and inventory, and coordinate purchasingCharacterize cell materials using analytical techniques (SEM, XRD, TGA, EIS, CV)Provide feedback on characterization results to optimize cell performanceIdentify process and equipment improvements, collaborating with process engineeringMaintain safety standards, manage hazardous waste and cleaning areas with EH&S teamImplement 5S and maintain cleanliness in lab spacesPerform preventative maintenance and calibrations on equipmentDocument materials and processes accurately and promptlyAdapt to evolving processes while maintaining detailed recordsRequirements5+ years of team management experienceExperience in environments requiring high attention to detailStrong documentation and SOP skillsExperience handling hazardous materials and waste managementAbility to work in dry rooms and glove boxes for extended periodsManual dexterity and visual acuityStrong interpersonal and organizational skillsClear communication skillsAdherence to safety policiesExperience with powder processing, roll-to-roll processes, slurry mixing, or battery assemblyExperience working in gloveboxes/dry rooms and chemical manufacturingPreferred QualificationsBA/BS in Chemical or Mechanical Engineering or related fieldFamiliarity with analytical tools like SEM, XRD, TGA, FTIR, DSCOver 5 years in a fast-paced lab or manufacturing environmentExperience handling hazardous chemicals and laboratory safetyBasic chemistry knowledge, including pH and chemical risksJob DetailsType: Full-timeSchedule: Monday to FridayLocation: Relocate or commute to Hayward, CABlue Current is committed to diversity and equal employment opportunity.
