OverviewJoin HDR as a Senior Mechanical Power Engineer in HDR's national Power Generation team. HDR seeks a Senior Mechanical Engineer to help clients develop, contract, and implement natural gas and potentially renewable energy generation projects while serving as Engineer of Record or Owner’s Engineer.Opportunities are available in these preferred locations:AustinAnn ArborBoiseBismarckBillingsCharlotteChicagoDenverIrvineFort WorthHoustonHonoluluKansas CityMadisonMinneapolisOmahaPhoenixPortland (OR & ME)RichmondRaleighSacramento/FolsomSan DiegoSeattleSpokaneSt LouisSyracuseResponsibilitiesLead the project mechanical team and coordinate with other engineering disciplinesMonitor and communicate project status; provide mechanical engineering support for detailed design and owner’s engineer projects on technical and contractual levelsDeliverables include construction drawings, bid specifications, mechanical equipment sizing calculations, technical memos, bid evaluations, code reviews, feasibility studies, reports, and cost estimatesSignificant experience with the design and specification of power generation systems for simple cycle, combined cycle, distributed generation, and RICE projects (preferred)Project roles will vary based on project size and type and may include lead mechanical engineer, project engineering manager, and possibly project manager; most tasks are performed in a collaborative, multi‑discipline environmentPreferred QualificationsBS degree in Mechanical Engineering from an ABET accredited universityMinimum 15 years of experience in power generation designGas turbine, steam turbine and/or large reciprocating engine experience or subject matter expertiseDesign experience with simple cycle and combined cycle power generationPrevious experience with an engineering power consulting or EPC firm desiredMinimum 10 years of experience, ideally in the fossil power industry with a blend of design and owner’s engineer projectsAbility to handle multiple concurrent assignmentsExcellent communication and analytical skillsWilling to mentor less experienced engineers and EITsProficient at working within an established schedule and budgetTravel expectations of less than 10% for meetings with clients and vendors as well as project site visitsRequired QualificationsBachelor's degree in EngineeringA minimum of 10 years of experienceProfessional Engineers (PE or P.Eng) licenseExtensive experience in project execution within the Power Market SectorProficient computer skills in Microsoft Office as well as standard Power Market Sector design software (examples include PLS CAD, AutoCAD, Plant 3D, AutoPipe, and Revit)An attitude and commitment to being an active participant of our employee‑owned cultureHDR Beliefs and CommitmentHDR is our company.
