OverviewOur client is developing a next-generation satellite navigation system powered by a constellation of low Earth orbit (LEO) satellites. Designed to deliver high-performance and resilient positioning services, this innovative platform supports the future of autonomy, critical infrastructure, and mobility.Role: Thermal EngineerSalary: $110,000 - $145,000Position SummaryWe are seeking a Thermal Engineer to lead the design, modeling, and testing of spacecraft thermal control systems. In this hands-on role, you’ll develop and validate the thermal architecture that ensures all spacecraft components operate within specification throughout their mission—from launch through orbit. You’ll collaborate across teams to deliver robust thermal solutions for satellites operating in challenging space environments.Key ResponsibilitiesDesign and implement passive and active thermal control systems (radiators, coatings, MLI, heaters, etc.)Develop thermal models to support design trades, detailed analyses, and verification effortsSimulate orbital environments and perform worst-case temperature assessmentsPlan and execute thermal testing campaigns, including thermal vacuum (TVAC) and thermal cyclingDefine subsystem thermal requirements and ensure margin compliance across all mission phasesInterface with mechanical, payload, and integration teams to define layout and thermal interfacesPrepare documentation, analysis reports, and customer review materialsMinimum QualificationsB.S. or M.S. in Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, or a related discipline2–5 years of experience in thermal analysis and design, preferably in aerospace or satellite systemsProficiency with tools such as Thermal Desktop, SINDA/FLUINT, ESATAN, or similarStrong understanding of orbital heat transfer modes (conduction, radiation, and thermal cycling)Experience designing and working with thermal hardware (e.g., thermistors, heaters, insulation)Ability to transition between analysis and hands-on hardware developmentU.S. citizenship or lawful permanent residency (Green Card) required under U.S. export regulationsPreferred QualificationsExperience with thermal modeling for satellite missions or on-orbit operationsFamiliarity with CAD and FEA tools such as SolidWorks, ANSYS, or COMSOLExposure to cross-functional spacecraft development, including payload and power systemsOtherSeniority level: Mid-Senior levelEmployment type: Full-timeLocation: Burlingame, CA #J-18808-Ljbffr
