OverviewJoby Aviation is seeking a passionate finite element analysis (FEA) engineer to join our powertrain team. This role will work primarily on developing FEA and other models to refine and develop the components and subassemblies. The candidate will participate in the product development from concept phase through production, deeply involved in rapid design/test iteration cycle through FEA. Should be a self-starter with strong communication skills and possess a deep understanding of Finite Element Modeling, design principles, and verification and validation.ResponsibilitiesFinite Element Model development/refinement, validation and correlationFEM over a wide scope, including complicated mechanical systems/mechanisms, modal/vibration, and non-linear material behaviorsStructural design using CAD and design iteration through FEADesign, simulate, and execute structural/material/subassembly testingRequiredB.S. in mechanical engineering, or another relevant disciplineAt least 5+ years of working experience in relevant industryPrior FEA (Abaqus) and Computer Aided Engineering (CAE) experiencePractical experience in validating FE models using component/system level, or customized testsPractical experience in modeling complicated mechanisms, contact behaviors, mechanical systems, fatigue, vibration and model simplificationsGeneral knowledge of thermal/electric coupled structural analysisExperience in directly incorporate design changes and fast iteration using CAE/FEADeep understanding of product (structural) design principles and test design fundamentalsHands on experience in performing structural and material testAgile and adaptive in design/simulation/testAbility to work as part of a team in a fast-paced dynamic environmentDesiredPractical knowledge of Abaqus, Abaqus/CAE, FE-safe and its applicationsGood understanding of DFM, manufacturing methods like sheet metal forming, machining, injection moldingProficient in CAD like CATIA V6, Solidworks, etc.Hands-on experience for generating representative material model input using test data or analytical methodsHands-on experience of prototyping parts and test equipment, using CNC/lathe/milling machine8+ years of working experience in relevant industryAdditional InformationCompensation at Joby is a combination of base pay and Restricted Stock Units (RSUs). The target base pay for this position is $123,400 - $201,500/yr.
