Principal AI/ML Engineer

ResponsibilitiesLead and develop the company's AI/ML platform, ensuring its functionality, reliability, performance, and flexibility.Design architecture and oversee implementation of AI/ML infrastructure, platform, and services.Challenge existing solutions and drive for continuous technical improvements to serve Wex's broad risk area effectively.Guide teams in leveraging data and AI tools to enhance productivity and solution quality, demonstrating thought leadership.Collaborate with senior engineers across Wex to align technical solutions with business needs, showing strong partnership skills.Partner with information security teams to ensure data security and privacy, implementing necessary controls.Work with solutions architecture and product teams to integrate AI/ML platforms with existing systems, ensuring reliable execution.Engage with external vendors to evaluate technologies supporting AI/ML strategy.Create and manage roadmaps, project plans, and commitments, reporting progress to management.Define and drive the technical vision for AI/ML infrastructure aligned with business goals, collaborating closely with Data Science, ML Engineering, and operations teams.Set high standards, provide technical guidance, mentorship, and foster an environment of continuous learning and innovation within the team.Establish measurable quality goals and partner with security and SRE teams to meet security requirements and SLOs.Manage financial responsibilities for the team and ensure accountability through OKRs.Advise senior leadership on complex initiatives, leading teams to achieve high-quality results.Provide strategic technical leadership on business initiatives, leveraging deep industry and technical expertise.Qualifications & ExperienceDeep technical leadership with the ability to deliver business value.15-20 years of software design and development experience at scale.Strong programming skills, willing to learn Java and Python.Experience with machine learning models, including supervised, unsupervised, and reinforcement learning; LLM experience is a plus.Knowledge of distributed frameworks like Ray and Spark.Hands-on experience with Kubernetes, Terraform, and cloud services such as AWS and Azure.Proficiency in architecture design, deployment, and operations, with a focus on automation, quality, and full SDLC.Expertise in Big Data, AI, ML, and CI/CD automation.Leadership experience in guiding teams using agile practices.Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills.Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or related; advanced degrees are a plus.Leadership & Personal CharacteristicsCollaborative, engaging leadership style with humility, empathy, and transparency.Champion of high standards, integrity, and continuous improvement.Ability to operate effectively in a fast-paced, entrepreneurial environment.Strong communicator capable of inspiring teams and stakeholders.High intellectual curiosity, learning agility, and change management skills. #J-18808-Ljbffr
