This role follows a hybrid work model, requiring regular attendance at our Boston office.At GFT, the Mechanical team is dedicated to creating efficient, innovative solutions for mechanical systems, ensuring comfort and sustainability in every project. From energy-efficient power systems to advanced HVAC and plumbing designs, our team contributes to a resilient and sustainable built environment, pushing the boundaries of building system design and optimizing performance while addressing the unique needs of each facility.What You’ll Be Challenged To DoLead mechanical designs with a team-oriented approach; market sector concentrations may include K-12 and Higher Education, Federal, Pharmaceutical, Food and Beverage, Industrial Manufacturing, Transportation, or Water/Wastewater.Work in Boston, MA.Support and enhance the department's ability to conceptualize and deliver mechanical designs aligning with clients’ construction budgets, energy needs, and maintenance programs.Coordinate with interdisciplinary teams including Architectural, Structural, Electrical, Building Controls and Energy Management Systems specialists, and supply chain representatives.Provide coordination and verification of project deliverables.Participate in business development meetings with prospective clients, proposal preparation and delivery, and general client interaction.Working EnvironmentOur working environment is learning focused with formal and informal training; individualized training programs are evaluated annually.The success of multidisciplinary project teams depends on effective communication and coordination across this capacity, the successful candidate will be responsible for the following:Survey and studies of building mechanical equipment and systemsDesign of HVAC systems, building automation systems, plumbing systems and fire suppression systemsTechnical direction of mechanical designers and technicians on specific projectsProgress and other report writingProject specification writingProject managementProactive problem identification and resolutionCoordination and verification of project deliverablesParticipate in business development meetings with prospective clients, proposal preparation and delivery, as well as general client interactionEducation | ExperienceWhat You Will Bring To Our FirmA BS or higher degree in Mechanical Engineering from an ABET-accredited institution is requiredP.E. license is required5+ years’ experience with the ability to independently design HVAC systems for renovated and new facilities (high-efficiency systems, heat pumps, VRF/VRV, hydronic and steam boiler plants, chiller plants, terminal units, distribution, and control systems)5+ years’ experience using energy modeling and heat load software for energy use analyses and heat load calculationsStrong understanding of psychrometricsThorough understanding of mechanical building codes, energy codes, and construction standardsStrong understanding of DDC controls, controls design, and operationExcellent verbal and written communication skillsProject management experience is preferredProficiency in HVAC design softwareAutoCAD and REVIT experience with Architectural/MEP packages and BIM360 is preferredPlumbing and/or Fire Protection experience is preferredCommissioning experience and certification is preferredASHRAE involvement is preferredCompensationThe salary range for this role is $110,000 - $135,000.
