Be on the team that's changing the world.What we’re looking for:Nexamp is actively seeking a Senior Electrical Engineer to join our Clean Energy Deployment team. In this role you will be responsible for review of PV and ESS projects design by providing technical expertise in the interconnection, construction, and assisting in the commissioning of distributed energy resources (DERs). This role requires an electrical engineer with experience in electrical infrastructure up to 3 4 5kV, including in-depth knowledge and expertise protective relaying and controls, and a strong working knowledge in applicable national codes including NEC and NESC. In addition, you will work closely with the Grid Integration and Design Engineering teams.This position will be hybrid out of either our Boston, MA, Chicago, IL, or Washington D.C. and reports to the Director, Electrical Engineering.What you’ll do:Specify and review equipment shop drawings for switchgear, transformers, reclosers and other major electrical equipment.Perform advanced electrical modeling in ETAP and AmpCalc to coordinate system protection, determine fault-duty ratings, and calculate arc-flash hazardsManage scope of work for 3rd party electrical engineers including but not limited to studies; protection coordination, power flow, Arc Flash, Step/touch Grounding Analysis, PSCAD and PSSE Modeling, Substation DesignSupport the Grid Integration and Design Engineering team:Review, analyze, and interpret utility pre-screen reports, System Impact Studies, Interconnection Service Agreements, and utility negotiationsWitness test procedure review, code interpretation, protective settings developmentImplementation of non-wires alternatives, selective curtailment, and other grid-edge technologiesTrain and mentor junior engineering personnelComplete Project design reviews; review of single line diagrams, three-line diagrams, and site layout designs for compliance with code, best practices, and utility requirementsRespond to RFIs on active construction projects as requiredProvide technical support to Nexamp commissioning:Review medium-voltage equipment tests and factory testsDevelop, with assistance, mitigation plans for non-performance to establish safe operationReview RDB files and relay test reportsCertify mechanical completion on construction complete projectsProvide technical support to Nexamp development, EPC, and O&M departments for the entire life cycle of a project including development, permitting, construction, and asset management phasesManage new product research and implementation initiativesParticipate in process improvement activities and the generation and maintenance of Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and Best PracticesMaintain a high level of professionalism and ethical conductOther duties as assignedQualificationsBachelor’s Degree in electrical engineering6+ years of electrical engineering experience2+ years of PV experienceEIT certification required, PE preferredAutoCAD software proficiencyETAP, SKM, or AmpCalc modeling experienceFamiliarity with AcSELerator and RDB generationUtility scale design and HV substation experience or effective grounding expertise preferredStrong knowledge of industry standard design codes such as National Electric Code, International Building Code, International Fire Code and other industry standardsStrong knowledge of electrical principles, including medium voltage distribution, protection system coordination and relaying principlesKnowledge of construction means and methodsAbility to work as part of a fast paced, multi-disciplinary teamValid Driver’s License or ability to obtain sameCommitment to Nexamp/'s mission and have a passion for solving tomorrow/'s climate crisis todayDemonstrated experience in effectively communicating information, ideas, and perspectives with people inside and beyond your organizationExperience in showcasing initiative to make improvements to current work, processes, products, and services across the organization.
