This position requires rapidly obtaining a working knowledge in all technical aspects of OSP fiber and copper networks. The successful candidate is responsible for identifying existing field design and layout of OSP telecommunications network to include aerial, buried, and underground fiber network design and layout, underground conduit, manhole/handhole, building entrance, and riser facilities. Telecommunications systems are often located near high voltage power systems and the trainee must learn to identify and work safely in proximity to such systems.Job Duties/Responsibilities:Work in fiber build area and identify homes, businesses, and multiple dwelling units that require fiber extension.Acquire field data to be used for designing network routes.Identify optimum path for extending fiber and terminal tails.Provide detailed field notes to allow construction work prints to be generated in CAD.Capable of managing own workload and prioritizing multiple field engineering assignments.Negotiate and execute building access agreements.Qualifications/Requirements:High school diploma or equivalent (e.g., GED) required OR an equivalent combination of education, training, and relevant work experience that demonstrates the ability to successfully perform the essential duties of the positionA minimum of 2 years of experience in fiber-optic/telecommunications/telecom/Power construction industryKnowledge of outside plant activities (Fiber Cable Design, Pole Line Construction, Conduit System design)Ability to read and understand as built prints and be able to identify conflicts with existing outside plant facilities, select routing of lines and equipment required for projects.Experience using the following systems: IKE, Infinium, Varasset, M6 (MetaSolv special circuit order and design system), Control Desk (for fiber key sheets), FROGS (GIS platform – OSP cable plant records and AutoCAD for developing work order specifications), DPI (Cable facility inventory and customer terminal records, and FTTP fiber records is strongly desiredFamiliar with GIS (Geographic Information Systems), ESRI and shapefile functionalityWorking knowledge of AutoCAD and Microsoft Office applications.Good organizational, written, and verbal communication skillsAbility to learn new technical systems and tools.Ability to work safely in high traffic areas, public walkways, and right of tegrity -
