R&D Hardware Test Engineer - Mechanical FocusSan Jose, CAFigure is an AI Robotics company developing a general purpose humanoid. Our humanoid robot, Figure 02, is designed for commercial tasks and the home. We are based in San Jose, CA and require 5 days/week in-office collaboration. It’s time to build.We are seeking an experienced Hardware Test Engineer with a strong mechanical background to join the Hardware Team and lead the testing of our actuators and motion/force sensors. In this role, you will work closely with hardware design engineers to test the performance of novel hardware and compare it to currently-implemented hardware.This role will own all mechanical roles related to testing, including dyno/fixture design and setup, motor/sensor selection for dynos/fixtures, and troubleshooting of robotic systems. This role will work closely with the software-focused hardware test engineer to own and implement all R&D hardware testing, ensuring the development of robust, high-performance hardware solutions for our humanoid.ResponsibilitiesOwn testing of actuators and sensors, including CAD design/setup of testing systemsWork alongside software-focused test engineer to troubleshoot test hardwareCollaborate with cross-functional teams to gather test requirements and author test proceduresDocument integration processes, test plans, and validation resultsProvide actionable feedback to hardware R&D engineers, contributing to efficient development of new hardware solutionsDevelop cross-disciplinary knowledge of actuation subsystems to drive continuous improvementRequirementsPassionate about discovering hardware problems through rigorous testing and working closely with design engineers to find better solutions4+ years of experience in hardware test engineering with a mechanical focusBachelor's degree or higher in mechanical engineering, electrical engineering, physics, or a related fieldStrong knowledge of 3D CAD to design and implement test setups for novel componentsExperience with mechanical design of dynos and fixturesExperience with troubleshooting dynos and testing fixturesExperience with selecting electric motors, gearboxes, force/torque sensors, position sensors, and relevant setup and data acquisition techniquesMultidisciplinary knowledge spanning actuators, sensors, mechanical engineering, test procedures, and data analysisBonus QualificationsExperience with CATIA V6Experience with designing and executing test plans for mobile robotsExperience creating schematics and layout for basic PCB interfacesExperience with electrical wiring for data acquisition and motor controlExperience with consumer electronics and/or automotive testing standards such as JESD22-A104, ISO16750-1, UL2595, IEC 60068 and GMW3172Experience with characterization of actuators and force/motion sensorsExperience with real-time testing systems such as DSpace or SpeedgoatExperience with MATLAB and PythonExperience programming C++ for embedded systems #J-18808-Ljbffr
