Overview Primary Job Title: Mechanical Superintendent Alternate/Related Job Titles: Mechanical Construction Superintendent HVAC & Mechanical Field Supervisor Senior Mechanical Project Superintendent Mechanical Systems Construction Manager Location: Livermore, CA (local candidates only — within 70 miles, no per diem) Onsite Flexibility: Onsite Contract Details: Position Type: Contract Contract Duration: 12 months Start: 10/03/2025 End: 10/03/2026 Pay Rate: $60 - $70/hr Job Summary The Mechanical Superintendent will oversee field operations for mechanical and HVAC equipment installations on a Department of Defense (DOD) project in Livermore, CA. This role ensures the safe, timely, and cost-effective completion of construction work by supervising subcontractors, maintaining project schedules, enforcing safety standards, and ensuring compliance with specifications, drawings, and contracts. The position requires expertise in piping, rotating equipment, structural steel, welding, rigging, insulation, hydrostatic testing, and fire protection systems. Responsibilities Supervise and direct daily mechanical construction activities to ensure safety, productivity, and quality. Coordinate subcontractor work schedules and confirm contractual compliance. Monitor mechanical construction activities, including piping (carbon, stainless steel, alloy), welding, rotating/stationary equipment installation, insulation, coatings, and hydrostatic testing. Review safety documentation, conduct audits, and enforce safety policies. Authorize purchase requisitions, design changes, and project documentation. Manage subcontractor performance, track progress, and verify compliance with project scope. Conduct daily field reports, photo documentation, and oversee RFIs, markups, and as-builts. Ensure proper handling and storage of materials and equipment. Coordinate with QA/QC on welder qualifications, testing, and system walkdowns. Verify equipment setting, alignment, and compliance with design specifications. Create punch lists and verify corrective actions. Supervise project staffing, subcontractor direction, and craft supervision as required. Ensure all work complies with drawings, codes, and company standards. Qualifications Required Experience & Education Bachelor’s degree + 7 years in construction management or craft supervision on mechanical projects; OR Associate degree + 9 years in construction management or craft supervision; OR High School Diploma/GED + 11 years of relevant experience. Required Skills Strong communication and leadership abilities. Proven track record in safety compliance and enforcement. Ability to read, interpret, and apply isometric drawings, structural drawings, and P&IDs. Computer proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite. Valid driver’s license and ability to meet company driving requirements. Preferred Skills Experience managing subcontractors on large-scale mechanical or HVAC installations. Background in DOD or other high-security construction projects. Strong problem-solving, planning, and organizational skills.
